Seems reasonable if the article is to be believed. Catholics and Protestants are taxed as well.
The idea, similar to Germany's church tax, would aim to make mosques independent of foreign donors. Germany's government and progressive Muslim leaders have supported the idea. Seems this is being implemented to stop Saudi Arabia from funding extremist groups.
Yeah I see nothing wrong with this. I didn't know about the church tax, but they should fall under the same standards, makes me wonder why they weren't before. It's real good to see them doing something about the extremists too, hopefully this will cut down on the likelihood of terror attacks.
As long as it's not levied on some instead of all religious groups. Seems strange the tax currently only applies to Christians.
Tax all religion like we tax other unhealthy things - cigarettes, tobacco, etc.
"b-b-but the smol churches :c"
I imagine it was more of an oversight. Considering its Germany and Christianity has a much larger presence than Islam. So i guess it was more of a "Oh shit, we forgot to tax these guys."
It's essential to read the article if you don't already know about the church tax, because it is not what you'd think from the name. It's a tax paid by Christians, and the money is then given to churches to fund religious activity. They're proposing to levy a similar tax on practicing Muslims to fund mosques, thus freeing mosques from having to seek foreign donations from potentially dodgy cunts.
I'd still argue for more separation of church and state instead of less and just get rid of any preferential treatment of any belief system, thereby elevating all religions, no matter how obscure to the same playing field, where all followers are to pitch in to keep their religious communities running instead of deducting a fixed percentage from a paycheck. But I am still for the idea if we make it more inclusive in the meanwhile for other religions instead of selectively reserving the privilege for Christian based belief systems. And since you can choose to leave a church and skip out on any church tax it is not like it is being forced on anybody. (except the one that the German state pays directly but that is story for another time)
Wait a second, if this tax is new, then what are you paying for when you check you are a muslim at the part where you wanna collaborate with a religious organization while doing your taxes?
how about countries tax people once and stop there? thanks
Because the government and military would collapse due to lack of funding
I'm not exactly a pro religion person but woah slow down there you might cut yourself on that edge.
but they could just raise the tax automatically taken out of your income
That would greatly impact the poor in ways never seen. The poor should not be subject to luxury tax, cigarretee tax, or other taxes that they don't partake in. Just like no one expects you to pay the tollbooth for a road you don't drive on.
Taxing charity seems rather hurtful doesn't it?
what do you think tax backets already do?
Dude, just stop. One and Done Taxation is in credibly stupid.
taxing things like soda and religion is also stupid unrelated question, why are you wording this like a trump tweet?
Read posts above to see why religion tax may help reduce extremism. And soda taxes help deter people from buying soda, which deters parents from buying soda, which means kids won't drink as much, which will help curb childhood obesity . In addition, I think most soda tax revenue goes to programs to help curb the obesity epidemic too? Although not sure on that.
Soda taxation pushes people away from sugar water which is not only an ecological drain but also a massive health hazard. Also what in the fuck kind of post is this? 'Trump Tweet'. You're advocating for a taxation strategy that removes granularity and revenue sources for municipalities which do the majority of these additional taxes as they cannot make ends meet through just a federal government. You're failure to recognize this is your own fault.
all it did was make it so everyone buys their soda outside of philadelphia, and order alcohol instead of soda when i go to a restaurant in the city(which is probably much worse for my health) side note: on rereading the article i read one key sentence where it said that the taxes just go back to the mosques/churches. IMO this is fair and makes sense. Misunderstood, my bad.
Yeah, and they waste more gas money coming out to my Grocery store instead of buying cheaper cased water. Meanwhile, the school district, due to this new cashflow is pulling a bunch of money it would not have gotten otherwise because the taxes in the area aren't high enough, nor are the income brackets, high enough to be paid for purely through yearly taxes.
you think im some kind of savage that drinks unflavored water?
I think any of those arguing against the tax are, especially the African American clergy who are now saying it disproportionately impacts their communities, are either ill-informed or taking money from Pepsi-Co and Coca Cola. Especially considering, these same clergy should be well aware of the higher amount of type 2(I had too much sugar) diabetes and heart disease(which is a consequence of high sugar intake) that occurs in their own communities. Instead of celebrating the fact that their children will be getting better educations from the already pathetic education that exists in Philly after the white flight of 50s and 60s, they're essentially beggars being choosers.
kinda edgy although tbh, I wouldn't mind if we started taxing churches again, but instead got big tax cuts based on like community service and etc done. Churches that do soup kitchens, host overnights for the homeless, and do other stuff (which a lot of churches already do so it's not like every church is now taxed) receive tax benefits. Make the tax benefits pretty big so they exceed the actual cost of hosting such things. Shitty churches like westboro that don't do much community service are taxed while actually good ones pay less or none at all of course it would probably introduce like a grey area of like what is considered community service and such but im sure there's ways to solve that

Seems only fair but I feel like the alt-right mongs will start to whine more about their great replacement conspiracy bullshit.
Because then people will incessantly whine about those taxes and taxes will be lowered to the point where they're no longer viable with simple income taxes and the government will have to look into taxing other things to make up the difference. Sorta like what's already happened.
