Is there something I'm not seeing? Smuggling drugs into Asia is literal death sentence if caught.
There was a similiar case in china about a year ago where a greek woman was caught smuggling drugs and they trying to decide whether to put her in a normal jail as now she became an adult.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was a big lie to use as a bargaining chip for the Chinese reporter Canada arrested or something.
All I can say is it's prime time for China to break up once again.
Unless you're from a western nation and more useful as leverage.
This is clearly a ploy by the Chinese to get their guy back. China knows it's citizens are above the law, and you can expect any of their businessmen will now never face charges abroad again.
It makes no sense, China has already grabbed two influential Canadians just days after the capture of Huawai's CFO (not some reporter). Those are the bargain chips.
This is a Canadian citizen that likely got caught way earlier and is being sentenced just now. And since China and Canada are feuding, the Chinese media thought they'd make some headlines by bringing it up.
Break up into what? If you're thinking along the lines of the USSR dissolution, forget about it. China is mainly Han Chinese anyway so it won't break up along ethnic lines like the SU did.
Threatening to execute a hostage.
I'm talking about the thousand other times that Chinese dynasty's have collapsed and split apart. Though thinking about it that might've been what the Cultural Revolution was about.
Using Wechat for that has to be the stupidest thing in the fucking world lmao.
The old dynasties also lacked the unprecedented power of weapons that can kill hundreds in mere seconds, vehicles that can move hundreds of soldiers hundreds of kilometers in under an hour, and devices that can track and record anyone practically anywhere.
Restore the ROC! Also at the very least Tibetans, Macanese, and Hong Kongers have significant cultural difference to substantiate claims of independence in the event that the PR China collapsed.
Lots of idiots are under the impression that asia is an easy place to play babby's first criminal enterprise. Well, theres a reason professional criminals largely exist in organized groups. Its not that easy.
