I doubt this would be passed anyway as the US would just veto it.
For as much good UN does and intends to, it's dysfunctional.
List of people surprised:
Pathetic. Israel is merely prolonging this conflict for dubious reasons, such as maintaining a boogeyman to point to every time they bomb innocent civilians
"People lived there? But Hamas!"
The UN has no balls. It can send all the strongly worded letters it cares to but there's nothing behind those letters to back them up.
the UN has as much balls as the security council allows it to
The UN and the security council aren't the problem, this is a people problem. I always see in these Israel threads people bitching that the UN does nothing, but I guarantee most of these people on these sites would never take up a gun to a foreign land to die for someone they wont know.
Not to mention you have a large majority of powerful nations wanting us to NOT go and fight in expensive foreign operations so any country that sends people will have their population against them for a large part.
Even more of a problem is the UN is focused on keeping things CIVIL and UNITED, which immediately falls apart the moment the larger powers start involving themselves in a fashion we saw during the World Wars. "oh you shove my friend and intimidate them? Well me and my 4 country buddies here are going to leave the UN." We have partnerships and relationships with countries outside the UN as do many other places which will undoubtedly group up with each other if conflict starts in politically hot spots like this. Not to mention the resources and trading deals that would fall through and impact modern society so hard your head would spin.
This is why the UN seems to have no balls as it has to represent interests of the entire world but as a fundamental rule the entire world has very drastic interests and wants in comparison with each other. Not to mention there are countries that would LOVE to see the UN break down to the re-emergence of loyal vassal states, people like Putin would gain even more power. The entire point is to show a united front against aggression and war, to be able to openly communicate with each country and the entire world over your issues without having to drag everyone down into a war again.
There are more functions to the UN, but as a entity that wants to keep as many superpowers in membership as possible they have to bend. So for example lets say we DO let Palestine become a UN member, Israel (a very powerful nation) will leave and perhaps do something drastic. Well what do we do then? Send in our troops to kill a bunch of people who had no direct say in the choices? Let them possibly go to war with Palestine which would drag more countries into the conflict and essentially make the UN even more pointless?
This is an extremely complicated matter and so far the UN has done its job in preventing extremely large scale conflict at the loss of making concessions we don't feel are right. This doesn't make what the US and Israel are doing right, and yes the UN has flaws which allow larger countries to bully others but the point is that through these sacrifices we keep multiple countries from going to war and the large scale destruction of the human race. If people have a better idea they need to work on communicating and implementing it, but honestly I feel any system like this will inherently have to listen to sides other countries will not view as correct and also bend to their will to keep membership.
Yeah, I'm actually with you on all that. It just bugs me to no end when we hear about the system is being used to cause so much harm on the flip side, like with the vetos.
the UN is meant to be a forum not an enforcement body unto itself. Its continued existence is because members gain more from being a member than they loose from not being a member.
Those are two very large differences, being "recognized" doesn't keep them from doing their status quo, Palestine becoming a globally recognized UN member would definitely impede the things they're trying to do and could react a response such as leaving. Then you have the countries that would love to jump on Israel and you find Israel fighting vs 4 other countries and that is now a total of 5 countries at war compared to the two that are having internal conflicts. This is what the UN is trying to prevent because a hell of a lot more people would die in that situation than now.
Israel belongs to thr jews and the arabs should be expelled. Thr kingdom of judah and thr kingdom of israel before that were jewish kingdoms in modern day israel, the people eho call themselves Palestinians are just invaders thst took over after the roman empire lost thr province and the mamlurk and ottoman empire swallowed up anything left.
Speaking of which, turkey should givebsck the kurds their homeland, free the other Armenian kingdoms also.
Are you blatantly trying to look like a troll?
I didn't know Agent 47 impersonated idiots.
It's 48, the cloning didn't ever quite work right after 47.
Agent 48*
The 48s were a Class I human clone created by Ort-Meyer, designed as a loyal counterpart to Agent 47. They all lack free will...and constantly displayed a psychotic smile

holy shit. Thats amazing.
I agree, also you should give all your land back to native Americans.
I never though you could out do yourself after the Toblerone thread, but here we are.
the only difference between being a member state and a recognized state is a vote, there's no extra protections. If you invaded a recognized state it is as if you invaded a member state, or just any state because the UN doesn't recognize crimea for example as being part of russia.
