No, the mods can't.
Thank you for your service Sir and godspeed.
NOOOO! He was the oldest WWII Pacific Veteran alive! What a huge loss.
Damn, and he pushed hard in life too. Smoking and drinking daily, part blind, still driving and kicking up til now. Hopefully his last days were spent well with family.
Smoked cigars and drank whiskey every day. Absolute legend.
15 cigars a day and lived till 112, badass. RIP.
From his 108th birthday: http://i.imgur.com/iua7M5N.jpg Indeed the man was a verified badass.
Doesn't even look 108 either.
every single person i read about who was the oldest person currently alive is like "my diet is 12 packs of cigarettes, a whole back of bacon, and a 2 liters of whiskey every day", maybe they know something we don't
goddamn he looks not a day over 70
healthy genetics, and likely they were in great shape for many years. Look at the old pictures of Mr Overton, he looked to be very fit
I imagine it's a combination of luck (avoiding cancer, other deceloping health issues like motor neurone disease or alzheimers) and certain lifestyle choices specific to the individual. See: Buster Martin, who ran the 2008 London Marathon at 101 and lived to 104, still working. He credited it to beer, cigarettes and red meat. https://assets.londonist.com/uploads/2011/04/i730/bustermarathon-300x198_3.jpg https://i.pinimg.com/originals/c0/7b/13/c07b131c4b8354c266b5307d4c4db430.jpg While I doubt the cigarettes did him many favours it seems he kept an overall active and robust lifestyle.
Watching the documentary, he seems to have a sense of meaning and satisfaction with what he's done and what he's got. I suspect that goes way farther than most people would consider. Your health ain't staying strong if you don't know why you're getting up in the morning
this is probably the biggest part. health is as much about mentality as it is physicality
