It's a shame the event was spoiled a few months ago with a glitch.
It's kinda neat to know I can say this event happened on the same day as my birthday

if only it happened in reality
Because of the way deterrence and weapons development works, we are safer in a situation where superpowers have equivalent nuclear capability than we would be if we disarmed all nukes tomorrow, with the technology for nuclear weapons remaining known and possible.
Kojima's "nuclear deterrence doesn't work" Aesop that he's been pushing since Peace Walker is just plain wrong. Nuclear deterrence works just fine.
DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT DAY IS TODAY JACK?!
your birthday?
To be fair, it’s also meant to be a lead in to Metal Gear, where the world is free of nukes up until Big Boss builds some
I don't know if that can actually be considered canon anymore, since MGS1 made START1 and STARTII canon in the Metal Gear universe.
Little inconsistencies like this are why I still hold out hope for a remake of MG1 and MG2, maybe in one game. It could work, the ending of MG1 could totally work as a mid-game fake-out ending, since Snake kills Venom and not the real Big Boss.
Nuclear deterrence may work just fine, but the Japanese will always have complex emotions toward their existence, given that they remain the only nation to have one used against them in war.
Another weird inconsistency about the MSX games and MGS is that in MGS1, Snake mentions that Big Boss revealed himself to be Snake's father in Zanzibar Land, in a kind of Darth Vader moment. This literally doesn't happen in MG2. MGS1 simply retcons that event into existence so that Snake doesn't need to dramatically discover it in MGS1.
Wait a minute, this is actually legit? This wasn't the result of either a bug or some sort of fuckery involving deleting nukes, this was actually accomplished by the community?
I'm not saying that's for sure why he's been pushing that, but it's not surprising to me that someone coming from the one country that got nuked will have strong anti-nukes sentiments. (not saying he's right or not, it's a tough question that I dont pretend to have an answer to).
While I'm inclined to agree, nukes are old news now. Hypersonic missiles are the new big thing in deterrence. Reason being, if we both have nukes, but I have hypersonic missiles too, I can throw those hypersonic missiles at you before your nukes are even in the air, and disable them in their silos. Effectively making your side of deterrence null.
It's still a tech race to whoever has the fastest deployable weapon wins, the deterrence factor just being that, the fastest deployable weapon. Unfortunately, it'll never change as long as there are political\
ideological differences.
Well of course it can happen if either:
A - the game glitches
B - the devs change the mechanics through a patch
And this time, it was B.
Just one missed/hidden silo has the theoretical potential of wiping out major cities of a number of countries.
It simply wouldn't be worth the risk.
Whenever a faction produces new technology that is outright better, they usually establish mass dominance over others. It isn't a case of deterrence at that point, it's just control until the opposition produces the inevitably similar, but cheaper versions of that tech. Like the Chinese and gunpowder, the Americans and their nuclear weapons... Look at the Germans in WWI when they had armored tank crews rolling in on Polish Cavalry with sabres and rifles... The list could go on forever.
Why would Konami do this? Free marketing for a new metal gear game?
Maybe as a way to discourage online interaction so they have an excuse to disable online play and shut down the servers.
I mean, I honestly wouldn't mind that if they integrated the online content into the singleplayer game but oh boy, fat chance
Konami made a statement saying they're not being it said, don't know what cause it and that it's possibly a hack (? illegal method).

"[About PS3 / XBox version "MGSV: TPP" nuclear disposal event occurrence] early Monday, Japan time on December 26. Looks like the Xbox one, Xbox 360 and PC version were wiped of their nukes a day after the ps4's.
i bet kojima did this
Google Translate didn't get it entirely right. It says here that there's a possibility that it was done through a hack or whatever, and that it is definitely under investigation.
Though I'd wager that the former is just PR speak and "possibility" means "near certainty".
