This was his response to the criticism, trickle down economics for twitch. He later deleted that post.
Not to shit on the fellow, but I don't really see the appeal behind Ninja. At least old school Pewdiepie had the 'screaming gamer' thing that appealed to large audiences because it was relatively low-effort and low-commitment. I don't understand this following; is it just because he's good at a game and has funky hair?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osQEbRrUbE4
I wouldn't say "at least", old pewdiepie was still hated and still a mystery at the time. FP hated him and it was no wonder. Obviously he's improved by leaps and bounds since then though.
Oh yeah, I was hardly a fan either, I'm just saying I could sort of understand the appeal behind his screeching back in 2012. It was surface-level content, nothing more. Ninja just seems like you've taken a standard Youtube gaming channel, slapped it on Twitch with a webcam, and added funky hair. Except it's 2018/2019, so that trend realistically shouldn't exist anymore. But it does.
Personally I don't enjoy Ninja. He simply isn't to my tastes as a viewer on twitch, since he mostly panders to children and early-adolescent people. That and a lot of streamers who tend to get into the
thousands viewership tend to be unable to talk to anyone or form a connection with the community; they're more of a tv show than a entertainer then.
But the biggest problem I find with him is that he's hypocritical. I know people compare him to Pewdiepie in his earlier years but at least Pewdiepie never really yelled at and screamed at children - he was more of a person who was genuine I found (?). Ninja does all of this while touting that he's attempting a kid-friendly stream which is E for everyone. Going further than that the dude's also really sketchy
personality wise. He comes off as crass and arrogant. There was a stream with him and the person from Rick and Morty and he spent most of the time just shitting on them infront of thousands of
viewers. It's clear that most of the things he does for sponsorship is only for cash and he doesn't give a fuck about anything else.
I don't see the appeal in Ninja.
He's just some guy. That I know of, he doesn't has a eSports background so he isn't like Shroud that makes you question if he's for real or not in EVERY game he plays, throwing some mad shots. He also doesn't has a persona like Disrespect, which isn't amazing but can be pretty entertaining fromt time to time. He doesn't seems to be that great of a streamer like the kind that really interacts with his/her subs and actually has a personality.
Not only that, Ninja is a huge bitch. Disrespect bitches at the game being this and that, but Ninja takes it a step further and accuses everyone of stream sniping.
I don't know, he just seems pretty average as any random streamer and ends up being just unlikeable.
I thought Ninja was a fairly mediocre esports player that scrubbed out to do streaming?
The last time I saw any of his videos was about half a year ago and I was honestly stunned how different he was compared to his early stuff. I actually have a lot of respect for the guy now that he changed himself and his own content.
Wait, so why is "everybody" mad about this?
They are mad that Twitch is running ads that feature upcoming Twitch sponsored events as normal Twitch ads?
Im fairly certain no streamer has actually any influence what types of ads run on their channel and pre-roll ads always run.
Like I can see that its not great or where they are coming from but its weird that besides all kinds of weird ads for random products, one of the biggest Twitch poster childs is now an issue.
It's a big deal because twitch is basically using other content creators pages to roll out ads for another content creator without their input. It also happens to be ads for someone most of them don't like or care about.
The second issue is that Ninja didn't seem to understand why it is a big deal and made it into a issue about him. He is basically too self-centered to actually think about what the problem is and instead think people hate it because it is him. Which he completely missed the point.
Its like you're streaming and you have specific people you promote or specific things you promote. Then Twitch high jacks your feed and rolls out ads for something else which you don't want apart of or don't like.
It's bad etiquette to go into someone else's stream to promote your own, this is twitch doing it to 'everyone'. Also advertising a twitch channel and saying it's THE twitch event is really shitty as it'll draw people away from the channels it's being advertised on.
It says in the source why people are upset
The stream has been getting more publicity this week as rival Twitch streamers criticize the decision of the platform to run pre-roll ads for the Ninja New Year's Eve stream on their channels without consulting the streamers/"Twitch Partners" as they are known.
On the Livestream Fail subreddit, user Nicer_Chile posted links to tweets by Twitch streamers on 27 December with some Reddit users supporting the complaints and others arguing that everyone benefits from Ninja raising the profile of Twitch as a whole. That said, a common line is that other Twitch channels might be planning their own NYE Countdown events. Some also suggested that advertising "offsite" would be more appropriate in this case.
Basically, it's twitch partners who provide content similar to Ninja, who also might be planning events of their own, are upset that Twitch is advertising a rival streamers event on their channel without them getting any say. Ninja's comment about it benefiting Twitch is also being called BS, since they're not running these ads offsite, so it's only going to poach potential viewers away from other streamers for Ninja's stream.
He apparently was in a few Halo 3 pro teams but thats it.
Then started streaming hopping through BR games, ending up in Fortnite.
Pewdie is one of those Youtubers that got better with time instead of worse like so many have.
I hadn't heard about this dude until he was nominated for something or other on TGA among other people I had also never heard of.
Uhhh I'll just get back under my rock for a couple of years, see ya.
I don't know who this is, what makes him special, or why anyone cares.
Is this what its like to get old?
I'm so sick of hearing about Ninja and Fortnite, to be honest. It's like there's no other big streamers and games to write articles about.
Honestly he’s still just as bad. He hides his toxicity pretty well, but it slips out occasionally. He rarely admits he’s wrong and he’s still extremely immature.
Not even sure why people watch him anymore. There’s a hundred other fortnite streamers at his skill level and are far more chill than ninja
Jerma should've won hands down.
From my understanding he seems unbelievably status quo. Like, if someone described Fortnite game streamer, Ninja fit that bill before it was ever reshaped to fit him. It's almost like he just slid into the house and sat down at the dinner table and nobody even noticed there was a time when he wasn't there.
As part of this he's just this familiar comforting figure for kids, that probably 1. feels irremovable from Fortnite and 2. feels like he's been around forever.
This is probably why, even with his massive platform he's completely unwilling to take steps for positive change even if he acknowledges problems, he just doesn't want to threaten his position as eternal good boy who just exists.
None of this seems very worthy of reward to me, his position in gaming seems borderline parasitic.
Yeah, i'm not sure why he gets any views entirely honestly.

It's a big deal because here these streamers are, streaming, then in the middle of it their viewers get an ad for another stream. It's the same as a clan coming into another clan's server to do their recruiting. It's poaching bullshit. And what's worse is Ninja tried to go the 'But you'll get paid in exposure' route that *everyone* who wants something for free tries
I sometimes poke around streams and stream highlights on youtube, and one particular Fortnite and other games streamer I find to be leagues better than Ninja is Pokimane.
Waaaay better people skills seeing how she's supposed to be an actress so y'know, slightly goes hand in hand, she has a pretty fun personality, and while she probably isn't a powerhouse of skill, she's just way better than Ninja.
And seeing how she's won Streamer of the Year and has been nominated for awards before, whatever that's worth, seems to be a whole lot more than whatever Ninja could do.
I don't know, I find "try not to laugh" videos kinda insufferable to be honest.
Twitch removed the ad.

Personally I stick with it not being the biggest issue.
Mainly because its not Ninja himself who advertised himself on others people stream via ads.
Its Twitch doing it, they control the ads, they put Ninja on other peoples pre-roll ads.
If Ninja could actually advertise his own stream by himself on other streams with ads that would be a lot more bad.
As it stands it was Twitch advertising a Twitch event, but I guess people react different to it.
I think the main appeal is that he tries to be super family friendly, but every now and then he breaks character and goes into rage mode. Before Fortnite, he was fucking insane.
https://youtu.be/v5ZSlbN50fI
I despise family friendly strict kind of rules.
One thing is being literal garbage language from top to bottom both in sound and image.
The other is not being considered family friendly for saying "fuck", when kids younger than me tell anyone to stfu and go fuck themselves.
It's such a restrictive piece of shareholder constriction.
Isn't this guy some Mike Pence level weirdo who won't interact with women outside of his wife because he's afraid he'll fuck them?
