(CNN) The Republican leaders of two House committees say their investigation into the FBI's handling of Hillary Clinton's email server and its probe of alleged coordination between
the Trump campaign and Russia uncovered concerns about the "thoroughness and impartiality" of each investigation.
House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte and Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy sent a six-page letter Friday summarizing the findings of their joint probe into the FBI and Justice
Department, writing that further investigation was needed -- including appointing a second special counsel -- to examine the "disparate way these two investigations were seemingly
conducted."
Notably, the Republican lawmakers also argued that their investigation was not an attempt to undercut special counsel Robert Mueller -- a charge leveled by Democrats throughout the
Republican-led investigation.
The letter, which was addressed to acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker, DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, marks the conclusion
of the yearlong Republican investigation.
Goodlatte and Gowdy expressed hope in their letter that the Senate, where Republicans retain the majority, will continue the investigation. Incoming Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey
Graham has expressed openness to probing the matter further.
They expressed frustration that the Justice Department had been unwilling to hand over many of the documents they were seeking, a dispute that prompted some conservative
members of the two committees to call for Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein's impeachment.
The present Republican-led House committees are an absolute fucking joke. It may very well be true that there is something in need of investigation, but I'm going to need someone more reliable than Goodlatte and Gowdy.
Gowdy was so poor, ineffective, and unconvincing that he couldn't convince himself to try and stay longer than a term. It's not surprising since he runs a predictable circle at almost every hearing he's done every time a decent argument is thrown at him.
Yeah I'd be fine into an investigation of why Hillary and Trump were handled so differently. Either announce both or neither, by announcing one and not the other, you influence the election in a huge way.
Yes, how dare they withhold classified documents from an active federal investigation
It was never clear to me why the FBI trump investigation and the Clinton email investigation were treated so differently.
Rumor has it that Comey was being blackmailed by a pro-Trump sect of the FBI

That’s no longer a rumor; it’s a confirmed fact. Correspondence between FBI agents in the NYC field office and Rudy Giuliani have confirmed that Comey was forced into delivering a press conference on the Clinton email probe under threat of leaks. A public statement was his only chance of retaining control over the narrative.
It still blows my mind how stories from investigative reporters get picked up by major media years later as if they’re somehow “breaking news.” This story has been in the open since late 2016.
