https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-times-delivery-breakdown-20181229-story.html A cyberattack that appears to have originated from outside the United States caused major printing and delivery disruptions at several newspapers across the country on Saturday including the Los Angeles Times, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The attack led to distribution delays in the Saturday edition of The Times, the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Chicago Tribune, Baltimore Sun and several other major newspapers that operate on a shared production platform. It also stymied distribution of the West Coast editions of the Wall Street Journal and New York Times, which are all printed at the Los Angeles Times’ Olympic printing plant in downtown Los Angeles. “We believe the intention of the attack was to disable infrastructure, more specifically servers, as opposed to looking to steal information,” said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment publicly. No other details about the origin of the attack were immediately available, including the motive. The source identified the attacker only as a “foreign entity.”
Do you think the alt-right will change their minds if Russia topples key elements of the US internet infrastructure.
no, the fundamentalists will just feel justified
Sounds like a DDoS, but is it not common for the source of such attacks to come from outside the states, even if the one who coordinated them is inside the states?
"It was God's will taht the Russians infiltrate American cyber-space and completely wipe t_d from existence, while also stealing our personal and financial credentials! It's all part of Trump's brilliant plan to own the libs! QAnon told us this would happen!"
foreign entity would imply that a group outside the US was responsible for the attack
I cannot motherfucking imagine who could possibly be responsible
Who do we know that employs a sophisticated cyberwarfare operation and also shares a disdain for the free press...
China, Russia and North Korea. The only reason I'm not including the US government is that the current administration is too impotent to do anything like that and also I'm sure Trump hasn't thought of using yet another tactic that would inevitably backfire on him the second he ordered it.
We lost contact to 911 where I am, and I heard speculation that it was also due to off-shore cyber warfare. I'm not even sure we can call 911 still or if it has been fixed.
That was fixed as of yesterday, due to one of CenturyLink's network cards sending bad packets. https://twitter.com/GossiTheDog/status/1079144491238469638
Speaking of Russian and Chinese cyber attacks, I'm wondering why hasn't the US did cyberattacks of their own on Russia and China in retaliation.
There's no way that's true.
