But now, only one 83-year-old monk remains. A longtime chef-gardener still lives there, as well, along with several dozen feral cats. The other resident at Trisulti is the newcomer: a 43- year-old Briton who is one of Stephen K. Bannon’s closest associates in Europe and who hopes to transform the monastery into a “gladiator school for culture warriors.” One recent morning, Benjamin Harnwell, the Bannon acolyte, grabbed his ring of keys and moved from one building to the next, through hidden passageways and into frescoed rooms, where he said the next mission at this site was about to take form. But if all goes well, Harnwell said, a new generation of leaders will spend time here and then descend back down the mountainside road, returning to Rome, to other European capitals or to Washington, helping to ensure that Bannon’s version of a revolt might last for decades to come. The site became available because the resident monks were thinning in number and couldn’t manage the upkeep. The Italian government issued a request for tender. Harnwell stepped in, offering annual rent payments of 100,000 euros. As Harnwell was going after the monastery, he pitched Bannon on the idea of the political school. They later decided to call it Academy for the Judeo-Christian West. Recommend the whole article, it's fucking bizarre.
Guyana out of land for your compound?
maybe they think moving into a monastery will hide the fact that they're already the most unfuckable people on earth
So he wants to be the next Mussolini training a new wave of fascist populist wannabes?
How in the fuck does one rebel against the "Corporate Elite" when the recommended avenue is to side with one who - coincidentally - uses influence and behind the scenes bullshittery to try and expand his agenda which is exactly a clone of what he's trying to "usurp"? Fucking christ.
Literally yes
literally the opposite of what a monistary stands for.
In my opinion such a historical site should be left be and appreciated by all who wish to learn about it and get a look at the past. It sickens me to think anyone would be fine just taking it and forgetting its origins to turn it into some sort of training compound. I hope they don't tear down much the original structure, though I'm pessemistic in that regard. So many don't appreciate history.

You think his followers think that far ahead? They just think whatever he and others like him tell them to think.
I would have thought the 12th century was too progressive for Bannon's tastes.
This is sacrilegious. I hope whomever owns the monastery (assume the Church), doesn't give him anything. The best offer he could give the church is 30 silver pieces.
So they support isolationism and nationalism yet want to mold people from other countries not of their own into their ideology and work together? Sounds an awfully lot like the "globalists" they seem to hate.
This is the biggest curiosity about this dissident right-wing during globalization. They're trying to square a circle and find an alternative to our status quo and what the left is proposing. Bannon has frequently stated the future is between the populist left and populist right, and the latter seems to be a weird mix of nationalism and protectionism in some areas and free markets in others.
Essentially it'll be "let's get everyone to work together toward an every-man-for-himself policy".
The entire cause is heralded by a fucking globalist. I mean only the most idiotic of people would actually go with him without realizing beforehand that he's already someone who he rails on and on about: A globalist who's angry he doesn't have more influence and power. Steve Bannon himself is one of the worst actors and provocateurs in the world simply because of the cash he has and how he tries to wantonly use it solely for his own benefit while espouses it's for the "good of all."
For people who have made entire careers and political movements out of whining about immigration, the alt-right sure seem to immigrate a lot.
Against my better judgement I want to know more.
You really don't, but if you insist. The guy calls himself "The Golden One" and he's a (closeted) gay Swedish Nazi who makes YouTube videos killing Jews in Skyrim. He either previously or currently lived in Ireland with his girlfriend, I can't say for sure if that's still the case.
https://qz.com/1632565/italy-to-evict-steve-bannon-from-his-far-right-training-academy/?utm_source=reddit.com But earlier this month, Italian newspaper Repubblica reported that a letter used to guarantee the lease was forged. The letter had the signature of an employee of Danish bank Jyske, but the bank said the employee hadn’t been working there for years, and the letter was fraudulent.
