https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/ahead-times-square-ball-drop-u-s-strategic-command-jokes-n953416 U.S. Strategic Command made an unexpected joke in a now-deleted Twitter post about American military might on Monday in its New Year's Eve message. Noting the "big" Times Square ball drop celebration at midnight, the unified command's account tweeted, "if ever needed, we are #ready to drop something much, much bigger." The joke was followed by a slickly produced video of stealth jets with the words "stealth, ready, and lethal" flashing across the screen. The tweet encouraged followers to "watch to the end!" If you do, you'll see two bombs released from a plane, followed by several massive explosions. The tweet was later deleted, and a subsequent tweet from the unified command's account said the first was "in poor taste & does not reflect our values. We apologize." "This post, which has since been deleted, was part of our Year in Review series meant to feature our command priorities: strategic deterrence, decisive response and combat-ready force. It was a repost from earlier in the year, dropping a pair of conventional Massive Ordnance Penetrators (MOP) at a test range in the United States," a spokesman told NBC News this evening. MOPs are massive bombs designed to take on bunkers and concrete buildings. https://media2.s-nbcnews.com/j/newscms/2018_01/2700251/181231-strategic-command-mn-1810_e3167dae43bf74c53b507e56fe3b30d4.fit-560w.jpg
Their PR guy really dropped the ball on this
I dunno, bombing New Year’s Rockin Eve doesn’t sound like such a bad idea to me
Jesus fucking christ, how woefully, pathetically unprofessional.
That sounds exactly like something Trump would say
Just about every single service member I've served with, worked a long side a d bullshitted with has said something far, far, far worse. Bare in mind there is a famous running cadence called. Napalm Sticks to Kids.
They should just put a photo of fat man instead

Wow, That joke really bombed
This is Trump's fault. Not directly mind you, but the fact that our agencies and military seem to be incapable of policing themselves on social media is a direct result of leadership not being able to police itself either. Like there needs to be a new law after this presidency to actually write proper rules for social media use that can't just be tossed out the next time the president is a moron.
it also needs to be sufficiently severe. one strike is all you should get, and that's if you didn't do anything too bad. Otherwise you can be kicked out of your job straight away.
This song is catchy as fuck though, we can all agree on that.
Yeah his joke bombed.
Oh I know there's much worse said, it's just worded in a way that it's something you can hear Trump saying
I mean, people in the military are just known for having very dark senses of humor. Thing is, most people in the service know when to keep their mouth shut.
PR guy should have doubled down and linked his mixtape in the comments.
Man I love those epic tweets from my military cracking jokes about murdering people using my tax dollars, so funny haha!
Aren't most military cadences extremely macabre and gruesome I recently learned that Blood on the Risers is pretty much the anthem of US Airborne troops, and its lyrics are a detailed description of someone getting gibbed by their own parachute after a fucked up jump I always imagined that a grim and dark sense of humor just comes with the job, so I can totally see how this tweet probably didn't even register as something that would upset someone outside of the military.

No need for the use of incendiary ordnance; mixtape hotter than a Willie Pete.
It's really not that serious. Military social media accounts are always looking to try and connect with more people, usually through humor, and it doesn't always work out great. Also bear in mind that there actually are pretty strict rules on what official military accounts are allowed to post. Also note that after determining it wasn't the best joke, they took it down. Hell, there are a lot of things you aren't allowed to say in normal speech or post on your own personal social media when you are in the military. This really isn't that big of a deal.
its not specifically this instance its a whole pile of agencies using social media totally inappropriately since Trump took office because his WH has tossed out all the guidelines and discipline that obama set.
