Three people - including a police officer - have been stabbed by a man wielding a knife at Manchester Victoria railway station. A man and woman in their 50s were attacked at about 20:50 GMT, Greater Manchester Police said. A British Transport Police officer was stabbed in the shoulder. A man has been held on suspicion of attempted murder. Officers said counter terrorism police were leading the inquiry, but they were keeping an open mind on the motive .... "I looked down and saw he had a kitchen knife with a black handle with a good, 12in blade. It was just fear, pure fear." Damn, I kind of fear for a friend of mine. She went to the UK, she loves it, its completely different from Portugal and I know I'd love it there aswell, but every now and then she sees someone flip the FUCK out, and that really turns me off. Hope nothing ever happens to her. A good bit of crazies there.
There are crazies everywhere. Not just England.
So much police presence in Manchester tonight. Learnt more about it as we left at 3am. Just seen the video of the culprit yelling Allah Akbar. Disgusting fucks
and on a night of goodwill to all men... some people are just fucked up.
British Transport Police officer was also hurt. RIP @Hezzy
I have a Portuguese friend who has lived here for over 18 years and she says the thing that scares her about the UK is the Portuguese community itself and not the other people in the UK.
This fucking sucks. Thank goodness he didn't have a gun or a bomb, could have hurt a lot more people in a crowded area like that like the 7/7 bombings.
Police confirm it's being treated as a terrorist incident. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-46728702
Oh yeah we can be scary yeah... I'd probably have the same train of thoughts, or just think "if I see someone from Portugal, I'll keep speaking english just so I don't make instant buddies that might be annoying as hell or worse" Yeah I'm that kind of person. Better alone than with bad company.
I've been living here for my whole life of 26 years, and have never seen anyone take over a restaurant or going to hide in the bathroom. It's not the US.
hey, I haven't seen that shit either.
No, it's really not Your safer here than most places, regardless of cities. Knife crime is almost always related to gangs, and when it doesn't it's a terror attack, like most places. That's just a poor assumption to make on a whole country tbh
Crazies are everywhere. I've lived all over the world and lived all over the U.S. I've lived in really wealthy parts of the U.S and really poor parts of the U.S. I've worked regular jobs with loads of people contact and also worked in Law Enforcement. Never once in any place I've lived or visited needed to hide or stress about terrorism, attacks, etc. It kinda irritates me when I see comments like "it's not the U.S". People need to try expanding their world view the U.S isn't some wild west were people have shootouts. Congrats you fell for all the media exposure which gives people a sense that it is a regular thing. It is almost like someone in the U.S saying they will not go to europe because of all the terrorism related attacks with cars/vans. It's equivalent of thinking when you go to england the threat of being stabbed is looming at every street corner. There are only certain places in the world or cities for that matter, which you really need to follow travel advisories, follow news articles, and use some common sense when traveling. Point being is, crazy people exist everywhere, dangerous people can exist anywhere, don't allow sensationalism to mold your opinion on a country. There will always be though "areas" which people need to avoid just because they're rough or bad.
I just put that comment in to tease American posters really.
I feel like the odds of getting killed by someone else are closer to astronomical than we think, but because we focus on the shit that happens where one person was shot/stabbed/killed in a city of multiple millions, it naturally raises your defenses. I live in the Houston area and it seems like there's someone getting murdered each night, so it sounds super dangerous. But there's also like, 5+ million people who didn't get murdered in that same area, so the odds are in your favor. Obviously occupational hazard may skew the odds one way or the other. Like being a cop, or a convince store clerk on the night shift, or being a drug dealer or gang banger. The odds of being some random person and getting shot for no reason out of the blue? Astronomical. Though that doesn't mean it doesn't happen, obviously. If you're scared of going outside because you might get murdered by a nefarious actor, you should be a lot more scared of getting in a car and getting killed by a careless actor.
I couldn't really tell, I fell for it. Well played.
Who said I eas assuming it to be the whole country?...
