Useful stuff!
I always carry a small first aid kid for when I hike, handy little things for anything really.
Although I was still on the 15-30 chest pumps and two breaths part of history, even the kit I got comes with a rescue breathing mask that you place over their mouth as to not make physical contact, so huh. Feels odd to abandon it but good to know!
I actually attended a first response lecture given at a geek convention of all things a couple of years ago. It was given by an EMT, a U.S. Marshal, and a SWAT Team Leader. Was very interesting actually, though I've looked in to that stuff before so it was fairly familiar already.
buy the CAT.
There isnt much opportunity for misuse with them. You have massive bleeding from an artery or vein or you dont. And those things aren't mistakable.
The issue with TQs is people apply them for minor bleeding that could be controlled with some direct pressure/dressing, but the environment that the CAT was designed for demands prompt treatment for most injuries, so the cult around TQs/CATS is to apply to any wound on the arm/leg rapidly. Which id rather have that happen then someone titty around with a massive bleed.
Also packing gauze, a ton, with a couple of chest seals. There you got, thats all you'll ever need in a personal med kit to tie you over until EMS can do their BS and move you to a hospital.
I'll consider once over.
I already got gauze, quikclot and one set of chest seals for my hunting backpack, you never know. I dunno who I heard it from but someone said that in certain places chest seals are not sold legally due to it being a "advanced medical item". I guess it's the same stigma as tourniquets?
theres no harm to chest seals. Its just an occlusive bandage.
You might be thinking of a decompression needle.
No, I specifically mentioned chest seals and he jumped at it, oh well.
God I've seen decompression needle stuff and the FAST1, that looks awful but the weird bone pop sound of the FAST1 just sounds satisfying but I know it isn't lmao
Fantastic stuff.
Glad they point out that this is not for actual training. It is important that even if you watch these videos, if there is someone with you who has active training, let them treat the person, unless they instruct you otherwise.
Many of time I've seen people crowd around and give totally different instructions (some even incorrect).
I just had my AED and life support renewed few weeks ago.
It's good to see people making an effort to get first aid information out there. Far too little of the public know basic first aid and life support and it literally can be the difference between life and death.
Its been 5 years since i got my EMT-B cert, sweet jesus
Can confirm rescue breathing was a gross concept, interesting that they just don't teach it any more
Also because of the training, sleeping on my right side never feels 'right' any more. When you've resuscitated someone and theyre still kinda out of it, not only does laying them on their side prevent puke aspiration should they puke, but laying on the left side is easier on the heart because the its the aortic side where it's not as affected by pressure. The vena cava side would have a harder time with blood flowing back in if there were pressure on it
kinda miss this stuff but man i just did not like touching people lmao
Gotta refresh my class 3 first aid license this summer, this is a good reminder for that

💥 We're the Heat Cramps! 💥
I'm trying to guess what the final part will be. Probably related to the intro? Stabilizing the spine, and splinting maybe? There's a ton of material they can choose from
If they don't show the recovery position I'd be surprised.
Dunno if they plan going thru absolutely everything, but poisoning would be an interesting subject, the whole SUCK THE SNAKE BITE thing.

Scorpion's Spine Palpation is low-key the best MK fatality.
these guys are like excited children, its great
but oh jesus im concerned why they said its okay to whip and turn your head like that to check for neck pain... either the protocol has made a 180 or they made a huge no-no
if they're conscious you tell them to try to keep their head as still as possible, or make very slow movements. c-spine (cervical spine) is assumed compromised even in patients who have fallen unconscious from standing positions -- why the hell would you assume otherwise in vehicle crashes?
also he didn't mention to also check the back of the patient before backboarding them but thats ok cause thats gettin' really into the details
He will most likely check the patient once he gets them on a stretcher, specifically when hes log rolling him off the backboard.
