Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told Fox News' "Hannity" Wednesday night that if President Trump backs away from his demand for $5.7 billion to fund a wall along the U.S.-Mexico
border, it would mark "the end of 2019 in terms of him being an effective president" and "probably the end of his presidency."
"I'll tell you exactly how this is going to end," Graham told host Sean Hannity about the border-security standoff, which has shut down parts of the federal government for nearly two
weeks. "The president is going to challenge the Democrats to compromise and if they continue to say no, they’re going to pay a price with the American people."
Graham told Hannity he would support a compromise providing funding for the wall "as a down payment to securing the border." In exchange, Graham said, he would support giving
three-year work permits to approximately 700,000 undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children and covered by the Obama-era Deferred Action for
Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
"The president said, 'let’s make a deal.' The Democratic response is basically, 'go to hell,'" Graham said. "We need the wall, they’ve all voted for the wall, and the only way we’re going to
get the wall is to fight for it."
"We're going to fight," Graham said. "I don’t know how this is going to end, but we’re not giving up until we get the money ... that's the end of us if we give in on this issue as
Republicans.
The only people who would give a fuck if it was the end of the republican party are its brain dead adherents, the sane people and centrists will be popping bubbly if the party somehow collapses.
So of all the things he does, not getting the wall would be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
Fucking. Pathetic.
But he's not an effective president, in fact, backing away from "The Wall" would be the smart thing and would be something an effective president would do (well, an "effective" president wouldn't suggest a stupid fucking wall in the first place, but that's the reality we live in now)
Hurry up and give in, then, you worthless cumstains.
I hope he fights so he can get his ass beaten.
I love watching these cunts squirm.
If he keeps this up for like, one more week, won't it be the longest shutdown in history?
What a fucking baby.
overdramatic much?
Holy shit what if the US government just doesn't work this year?
I'm not super clued up on how these shutdowns work, but there's no way that could actually happen right?
McConnell has the exclusive ability as Senate majority leader to bring spending bills to a vote, and they need to pass the funding bill in identical form as in the House. It's not impossible.
Hahaha so this is the wall the Republican Party will die on. Fitting. A vanity project made on a racist basis. Good riddance.
Why the bar is so high for forcing a vote in either chamber is beyond me. So much bipartisan legislation has been killed simply because Paul Ryan or Mitch McConnell wouldn't bring it to a vote.
One of the things where they never expected people to be such partisan assholes.
Everyone who isn't racist or unconcerned about racism has already abandoned them, so they're fucked anyway. And yeah, good riddance.
I was thinking today how crazy this gridlock actually is. Under Obama the government was shutting down over expanding healthcare using a plan largely inspired by a moderate Republican plan. Now it's being caused because Democrats are standing up for the taxpayer by telling the President that he isn't going to get funding for the wall that he promised Mexico would pay for and Republicans can't do anything but side with Trump because their base will rebel against them more than they already have. They won't even compromise on a general border security bill. The Republican party has gone off the fucking rails.
because the gop took over in the 90s briefly and eliminated much of the autonomy of the various committees. Before the gingrige revolution congressional committee heads had basically broad authority to send things to the floor to vote (of note the democrats have restored some of this authority
Friendly reminder that every day that Trump's shutdown lasts is a day where no civil immigration cases are heard and hundreds if not thousands of illegal immigrants are permitted to stay in the country for months if not years to come because of the procedural delays and the insane backlog that already existed before Trump took office.
Trump's shutdown for border security is harming border security.

Soooo uhhhhhh
Yeah, Lindsey, the Republicans have fucked everything up and you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.
Wow, who knew that after lifetime of upholding fiscally-conservative family-oriented values and pushing American exceptionalist rhetoric, Lindsey Graham would choose a massively bloated overaching government project spearheaded by a twice divorced moron who sleeps with pornstars and collaborated with Russia to impede democracy as his hill to die on
Oh, and
Graham told Hannity he would support a compromise providing funding for the wall "as a down payment to securing the border." In exchange, Graham said, he would support giving
three-year work permits to approximately 700,000 undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children and covered by the Obama-era Deferred Action for
Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

I remember Democrats agreeing to a bipartisan compromise bill sent to Trump's desk a year ago that would have fully funded the $25 billion the orange fuckbucket wanted for the wall in exchange for a legal path to citizenship for DACA kids, after Trump explicitly stated he would sign a bill that did that. Congress, in effect, said "let's make a deal!" Trump's response was, basically, "go to hell!"
Now Graham is offering a percentage of money for the wall in exchange for three-year work permits to DACA kids. What kind of pussy negotiation tactic is this? It's practically fucking emasculating, this is so embarrassing.

It's not going to work. The Democrats aren't likely to lose many votes on the Wall issue when most of their base want them to stand their ground on it. And they know damn well they aren't going to draw anyone over from the Trump camp for compromising on the issue.
It'll hurt Trump far more to have to back down on the Wall than it will for Democrats to resist.
Cool, more underhanded calls for violence.
Honestly, even If he did cave I doubt it would make a difference. He'd probably tweet out a storm saying the democrats were unfair, cheated him, and are an enemy of the people for doing so. What's left of his fanbase would eat that shit up and the republicans as always wouldn't bat a friggin' eye.
The wall that Mexico was going to pay for
became the wall that American taxpayers were going to pay for
became the wall that shut down the federal government in order to make American taxpayers pay for
became the wall that Treasury fundraising drives among charitable private citizens are going to pay for.
I think that puts us at "pleading", how many more weeks of shutdown before we get to "acceptance"?
I bet they're fighting this hard for the wall because all that money is going to end up on their pockets.
Daily reminder that these fuck faces could have had their precious wall last year. We just wanted DACA. It had bipartisan support too didn’t it? Anyone wanna tell me what happened to it? Oh that’s right! Trump shit all over it!
Trump and co have written themselves into a fucking corner. Honestly, the dems better not budge a damn inch. The GOP refused to work with others and compromise? Well now it’s high time they got a taste of their own medicine.
They're fighting this hard for it because Trump has staked the entire Republican Party's credibility with his voter base on delivering the wall, because the wall is a handy dogwhistle for illegal immigration which is, sadly, a topic you can use to pretty much mentally control right-wing voters. Tell them an immigrant's stealing their job and they'll agree to almost anything you suggest as a solution.
Losing face and backing down on construction of the wall would signal to Trump voters that he's been beaten by Democrats and their Great Leader is, in fact, human after all. And that's no way to run a cult of personality. Just ask Mao.
I would love it if my employer could decide to not pay me because the board if directors couldnt agree on building a fence for several weeks.
A reminder that Flint still doesn't have clean water.
