This kind of shit is so fascinating. https://youtu.be/TrOPmotqGCY The way it's all totally preserved and untouched, just sitting there until they harvest the animatronics for spare parts. >that part where he walks into the theater and it's pitch-black except for the lone spotlight shining on the Buzzy animatronic, his hands having long-since decayed, revealing the metal claws underneath
this one is pretty good too https://youtu.be/flkW-ceNvck
Defunctland, Yesterworld, Expedition Theme Park, and ThemeParkHistory are unironic KINO. I love settling down with a nice cup of tea and just marathoning dozens of those videos, it's all so incredible. Just the amount of imagination and mechanical know-how that goes into your average theme park attraction is baffling; not only do you need the engineering skill to create a ride mechanism that can handle all sorts of people of all sorts of weights and sizes hundreds (if not thousands) of times over consecutively every day, but you need to devise live special effects that are fully autonomous. Expedition Everest is a great example; there isn't a single angle you can look at it from while on Disney property and not see a mountain, when it really looks like this from above: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/241798/4b6bacea-0990-4fc4-ac98-5cd722e15f9f/image.png Not only would you have no idea that there's a mundane-ass service road and maintenance area literally just out of view, but the track layout is in the shape of both Mickey and Oswald's heads. Say what you want about how tacky and materialistic and quietly sinister theme parks are, the level of detail and planning it takes into executing shit like this is mind-blowing.
A bit of a non-story, but I recall there being an incident around Christmas regarding Buzzy, the main character, being supposedly stolen by someone on account of his hydraulics and whatnot seemingly being slashed and making it look like he was ripped out of his place. The community of people who are into old attractions were going abuzz, wondering how someone could just casually waltz into Epcot, yank a few-hundred-pound anamatronic, and sneak out with it. As it turns out, it appears Disney decided to just, as Bantha said, harvest it for spare parts. Wonder what IP they'll shove into this space next if they decide to not bulldoze it all if that's the case.
You know, I was wondering what happened to him? Ten bucks says he ends up being the skeleton for Rocket Racoon in the Guardians coaster in EPCOT.
The gloves for Buzzy were stolen long ago, not decayed. Nothing has been confirmed on that front though. The clothes were stolen sometime over this past summer and sold for roughly $8k. The Buzzy AA is considered a "unauthorized removal" by those in the know. Everyone's keeping tight lipped at this point. Either right hand isn't talking to left hand or someone did steal the AA. Nothing has been confirmed by anyone aside from the clothes which is thanks to a police report and Brayden, specifically the hat and his jacket. The last part depends if the theater is left standing (main, gold dome was refinished and re-waterproofed last year FYI). It sounds like Wonder of Life has a weird future ahead of it.
the wonders of life dome area is a flower and garden mini expo area opened for around a month a year. this is the inside now: Google Maps
Oh I know. It's basically the reason why I went down there this past fall, just to be able to go into it again. It's now known as the "Festival Center" aka where they shove all of the crap from the festivals Epcot basically runs on. The cooking/brewing/etc shows for Food and Wine are in there as well. That may be changing this year. Odyssey was revamped and just opened a week ago: https://wdwnt.com/2018/12/photos-epcots-odyssey-reopens-heavily-remodeled-classic-1982-elements-removed/ The thought is Odyssey become the main Festival Center while WoL undergoes hefty changes for whatever it'll be turned into (thought is store/meet and greet/or temp location for Mousegear depending on which plans for Epcots "spine" are chosen).
