A dedicated person over on Reddit has recreated the PT game that made wave on the PS4 before being cancelled. It's been remade from scratch for the PC with VR support. Unreal PT by RadiusGordello Raising awareness before Konami try to shut this down. Downloaded it as fast as I could, I won't do the same mistake I did all those years ago (which I have heavily regretted ever since)
Well this annoying. I had to unplug my VR headset to even run the game or it would lockup on startup and it also has no resolution options which is lame since the opening text crawl is in 16x9 but the resolution defaults to your default desktop resolution which in my case is 21x9. I also remember that I'm a huge wuss and even on loop 1 where I know nothing happens I am still freaked out. I guess it's both a blessing and a curse that I've forgotten what happens in PT.
This is definitely the most accurate fan recreation yet. It's far from perfect but it really managed to nail the core feeling of the movement and visuals. Post-processing is also noticeably heavier and blurrier compared to the actual PT, and some textures are not as good as they were in PT but everything else is superb. I think it's neat in the meta sense too how Kojima and his team mentioned how they actually made PT to look like an 'indie game' and now we can say how accurate that statement is when one guy managed to do all of this.
That's a really common trick to disguise bad lighting.
I've played at least 4 fan remakes at this point (and I'm pretty sure this one included.) I don't think I'll be satisfied short of a real, actual port. Part of the fun is the mystery of how the game actually works and what triggers what, all of that is lost in a fan remake. Full Kojima code or bust.
I like how half the comments on reddit are just "What's PT?" Wouldn't someone with the game still be able to, theoretically, rip everything from it and give us the juicy bits?
Would be cool if someone made a comparison between this and the actual PT.
Finally, somebody followed this advice https://youtu.be/hqwP6uuYOWo

Damn man im struggling with playing this, lost my headset the first time the woman attacks you, havent got much further than that at this point.
Alright got through it, wew lad. Now im knee deep in conspiracy theories about this game and Kojima etc.. How did this happen..
I just beat it myself and holy shit, I can't even remember when I felt this kind of unease playing a game. Great, now I'm even more depressed about what could have been.
This sort of raises the question of this is going to be CnD'd. He made all assets by scratch, so that's good. But it's identical to the original, which was deleted discontinued and dumped into dev hell. Konami (sort of) owns PT, would they have any legal grounds to sue this guy? I feel like this game is going to open up a whole new world of fan games if it goes uncontested.
Even if Konami is never going to touch it again they will probably CnD. It's really easy for the company and the rights are still an asset for them, especially since it's related to the Silent Hill franchise.
No, we'll see if it gets CnD'd, but even if that doesnt happen, it won't make future fan games more safe from CnD. Every case is different. You can believe Nintendo isn't going to stop CnDing everyone anytime soon for instance.
Konami can do whatever the fuck they want because anyone with a brain has saved this and archived it the moment it appeared on the internet like I did. I ain't makin the same mistake twice! It's still gonna get CnD'd eventually and nothing is gonna change in the realm of fan games.
