Before you run against Trump, you must run against Hillary (if you're a woman)

Just hours after Elizabeth Warren announced her plans to run for president, a question began surfacing about a possible weakness. It wasn’t derived from opposition research into some facet of her life. It had nothing to do with her policy ideas.
It was the question often asked of female candidates and rarely of men: Is she “likable” enough to be president? Others put it another, potentially more devastating, way: Is she too much like Hillary Clinton to be the nominee?
It’s not just the Democratic senator from Massachusetts who may feel compelled to come up with an answer. The 2020 presidential campaign is expected to include the largest field ever of female candidates, all of them campaigning in the wake of the defeat of the first female nominee of a major party.
The reasons for Clinton’s loss are still debated two years after the election. But even as Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was elected House speaker on Wednesday, the women looking at White House campaigns continue to shoulder gendered criticism and demands not placed on their male counterparts: to be strong but not too tough, to be assertive without being pushy, lest voters turn away for reasons that they may not acknowledge are sexist but that researchers say are.
That obstacle was also placed before Democratic female candidates in the 2018 midterm elections, as Republicans tried to tie them directly to Clinton. It has also led some Democrats to openly wonder whether the party would be smarter to avoid a female presidential candidate in 2020 — a notion offensive to many in the party.
“It is ridiculous,” said Jess McIntosh, a Democratic strategist who worked on Clinton’s campaign. “We never look at loss by a man and say, ‘I guess we shouldn’t take another gamble on another white man’ or ‘I guess we should not have another veteran.’ ”
This exact reason is why I strongly believe Trump has a non-insignificant chance of winning a second term.
Oh my god, these goddamned imbeciles better not choose Clinton again. I swear to fucking Christ.
"just watch us" -the DNC, probably
I've certainly noticed a pattern here (it's been less prevalent recently though) how every time a female Democrat that isn't AOC makes headlines, they'll immediately get shit on without explanation. It's truly weird how people have been claiming that Nancy Pelosi isn't even "a real Democrat/progressive" and needs ousting, while propping up Beto4prez when he actively shies away from even being called a progressive.
This article has nothing to do with Clinton running or being nominated, please make sure you read/understand articles before replying
its not like republicans see any daylight between any democrat and hillary. They acted like she was on the ballot in 2018 and are still acting like she's on the ballot in 2020
As a society we're very subtly but powerfully trained from birth to consider women as less competent people in any professional setting. Not surprising that that rears its head when it comes to female politicians.
Ocasio-Cortez is being shat on for the silliest things and she's not even the most left-leaning person in Congress. She's being shat on because she's a youngish, attractive woman, and we've all of us been conditioned to see that as a sign of incompetence.
i mean uhhh we live in a society am i right my fellow gamers
I think she gets more shit than most because she outwardly looks like a stereotypical millennial. Hanity and most of Fox's beef is more generational and ageism than her being a woman.
"Look she claims to be a poor young person but she wears rented cloths!"
"look she claims to be a depressed millennial but she danced in college!"
they're treating her a lot like the media treated the 60s counterculture, except millenials are much more organized and much better at media manipulation than they believe.
I think it's far simpler even than that.
She isn't GOP.
She could be an absolutely perfect American(TM) Citizen, doing everything exactly like they claim it should be done, and they'd still try to smear her at every opportunity simply because she didn't run on the Republican ticket, even going as far as making up absolute horseshit, digging several generations deep into her family tree looking for dirt, whatever they had to do to smear her. And conversely, if she ran as GOP, they'd excuse outright high crimes against the nation itself.
I think the main problem here isn't necessarily that they're female, it's that they're a part of the old democratic party. You don't see AOC and new and upcoming female democrats like Krysten Sinema being shat on as much by the left because they aren't a part of the corporatist neoliberal party that has been the democrats for the last 20-30 years. Warren, Pelosi and even Hillary might have been some of the most progressive members of the democratic party (seriously look at Hillary's voting record, she was a lot more left than people think she is), but they still have the baggage of being a part of a party that has for a long time been corrupt and inept in trying to bring liberal ideas to the forefront, and they have all definitely been complicit in it. Perhaps being female does make it slightly worse but I have no doubt in my mind if they were men instead, people would still be giving them shit. People are tired of the Democratic party being the same party as the Republicans, just with not terrible social policies.
I've been thinking about this ever since Warren announced she was going to run and it's sad but true. Ingrained misogyny runs strong and deep in this country (and the rest of the world).
It is definitely hard to imagine an unlikeable person being elected President
oh certainly. the conservative sphere has their love of young conservative women who tow the party line, just don't step out of line otherwise you will have absolute hell to pay like Tomi Lahren
??? Eh, What group you referring too? Because I hate both them based on their recent actions and policies rather than identity based.
or they could just say she likes Dijon Mustard on her hamburgers. Worked for smearing Obummer, right?
The ones making it an issue about them being woman is the Old Guard Dems imo.
The whole "I'm with Her!" slogan/campaign platform and antagonizing anyone who isn't is what probably put off a lot of voters and kick started this whole dilemma.
Just fucking run Tulsi Gabbard, if they go after her accuse them of being unpatriotic for attacking a veteran or some shit.
can this old crone even make it through another election? She wasn't doing too hot on the last one even after they got her the cutting edge baby dick stem cells
They have to or shell have them killed
Benghazi 2
