So I'm searching for a new keyboard after my current one has begun acting strange. I know there should be a thread for mechanical keyboards already, but I couldn't find it, so I hope you can bear with me.
Anyway. I don't have any particularly specific requirements for it. A mechanical keyboard that's not too expensive, but is still sturdy, responsive, and just overall well functioning
is what I'm after - that should be a given. When I say not too expensive, I'm hoping for something that costs no more than ~€100.
Some lighting in the keyboard would be nice as well, although not absolutely required.
The one requirement I do have is that the keyboard should be as quiet as possible. The one I currently have (QPad, don't remember exactly which one) is obnoxiously loud.
Typing on it without headphones is ear-deafening loud, and it can be heard from the other side of the house, even with closed doors. Even after a year of having it, I am still
nowhere close to being used to the amount of noise it makes. Frankly speaking, it's half the reason alone why I want a new keyboard.
I will be honest and say I don't know much about mechanical keyboard. The current one I have was bought on the advice of a friend who is more knowledgeable.
What's the model of keyboard you're currently using? Some switches are louder than others, it would be good to know what kind yours has for reference.
I've got the Qpad-MK30 gaming keyboard. And from what I know about mechanical keyboards, and the noise it makes, I'm guessing it has red switches (I've been told those're the loudest one's).

This one is available with MX Red 'Silent' switches. There are many ten-keyless models on this site too, usually cheaper than full-size
easiest way to make a board quiet is with orings or qmk clips
I'm using something very similar to this right now

but with outemu reds instead of cherry mx blues. If you want my opinion, outemu reds are okay, have decent lifetime, seem sturdy, and barely no wobble, but might be a little scratchy depending on the keycaps it's using. Altough for the money I paid, it's beyond what i expected.
Would this be viable? Because now I'm getting very unsure whether all red switches or loud as fuck or not.
Reds are, by themselves, basically silent, but if you're always bottoming them out then they'd be as loud as anything else. If you bottom out while typing or gaming you'll want to get a pack of o-rings to dull the noise.
What exactly are o-rings? Guessing it's something you buy separately?
Yeah, they're just rubber rings in the shape of an o. I think I got mine from wasd keyboards, although I'm sure you could find appropriately sized rings elsewhere.
O-rings will decrease your overall switch travel distance, giving you a shorter more abrupt typing feel. I would recommend instead getting silent switches (Cherry MX Silent Red/Black, Gateron Silent, Zeal Silent, etc.) as they are better at silencing the board.
I'll consider getting those as well, thanks.
Been looking at this keyboard now. Seems fairly quiet to me, but getting an opinion would be nice.
