Go fuck yourself China
Tiawan is a great example of why China has not and will never change itself. In any sane world they would have just given up on it a decade ago and stopped caring as they raked in all the money from their growth policies finally coming to fruition, but no they still want it just because they don't have it.
Xi, even if Taiwan is reduced to rubble, it's territory taken and it's people oppressed and replaced by a Han Chinese majority it's spirit will live on and no matter what you do that spirit will always be number one.
Wow. I'm willing to bet if they pulled a Putin-style "invasion" a la Crimea that there's next to nothing the rest of the world would do to actually prevent it. We're heading down an increasingly worrying path on a global level and everyone just wants to clamp their hands to their ears and pretend nothing is happening.
China would need to commit to Operation Overlord scale amphibious invasion to land on Taiwan or use nuclear weapons. First option is very costly and with no guarantie of success, other is just plain stupid.
China has the man power to pull that off, though.
Taiwan alone only has something like a quarter of a million of active military servicemen while the People's Republic has over two million active with something like a half million more in reserve.
The PRC's reserve military alone is double the size of Taiwan's active military.
Those numbers mean nothing when sea is in the way.
How many of those troops are capable to do amphibious assault? How many ships they have for amphibious assault? Can they reach air superiority over Taiwan? Can they secure the beachhead and secure supply chain on those beached before Taiwan could muster strength run them back to the sea?
This is how Taiwan remained indepdent from China, hell during the civil war PRC suffered heavy losses for every island they took from the Nationalist government whom in turn suffered minimal losses. If Taiwan was an easy target, China would have took it long ago.
Now why Xi thinks he can take it now, is probably more of a bluff to get Taiwan to surrender without a fight as under Trump they won't get any support from the US. But if Taiwan stands firm and Xi follows up with war, well... well shit then, it's gonna be a slaughter and a clusterfuck.
they would be idiots to deploy that many troops on a land assault
friendly reminder that Taiwan was one of the founders of the UN, and a member of the security council, and they were illegally ousted by the DPRC and very few countries didn't support it, even the UK supported it (unsurprisingly the US was opposed)
The Chinese army surpass alot the Taiwanese army completely alone making it a complete suicide to Taiwanese government if China attack even if taiwan pulls out his entire army to defend himself from the chinese it wouldn't take too long for the PLA to overwhelm them quicky and almost make the entire Taiwanese army disappear.
For the Taiwanese government, it would be that or his only remaining allies support them against the Chinese (which no one would do to avoid losing relations with China) or surrender completely to avoid a complete massacre.
Numerically superior force is not guaranteed to win by any means. Taiwan's positioning makes large scale military operations very difficult. No doubt it wouldn't be just Taiwan alone against the Chinese either.
China fundamentally lacks the logistics as of now to create a viable beachead against taiwan, they literally just dont have enough transport craft (which of course they are rapidly trying to change). At the moment however, they simply cant move enough men with enough alacrity to form a meaningful incursion.
The united states couldnt take Cuba, and china will have a hell of a time taking vietnam. Islands are rough man.
hate to break it to you chief but vietnam isnt an island
The Bay of Pigs was a failure before they even hit the shore, let alone, not even remotely close to a proper military invasion.
lol I meant taiwan haha
Uuuuh, defenders in a war don't need numerical advantage to win. Especially ones on an island like Taiwan.
Short of a full fledged invasion, doesn't China have other options? A blockade could cripple Taiwan's economy, could be drawn out for several years without drawing as much ire from the global community. It wouldn't need to be a "full" blockade, reducing willingness of foreign traders to enter would suffice.
Could they cut undersea fiber to reduce internet access? Etc. I just don't see a full fledged invasion as being a wise move for China.
china is full of wise moves these days
The issue is that they'd need to strike soon, because any future president will hopefully bolster support in that region to allies.
The invasion was more of a matchstick that was suppose to cause enough Chaos in Cuba to create a rebellion. The original plan devised by Eisenhower had the US providing air and naval support for the Invasion force while they stormed the mainland. With the infrastructure and military bases crippled by US naval/air support, the Chaos would've allowed the 1,500 soldiers to push in with barely any resistance. Only encountering militia men or the police force in the process. And hopefully be given support by Cubans who were against the Castro Regime.
Sadly, when the invasion occurred. The world quickly realized that the invasion was backed by the US. Kennedy, the president at the time, decided it was best to pull out completely. Leaving the 1,500 soldiers to fight on their own with little to no Support from the US. The invasion was easily struck down by the Cuban military, and ironically solidified the Castro Regime as the main Cuban Government.
Next time read the history of the bay of pigs instead of just reading the numbers on the Wikipedia page.
