but gluten!
(i have a coworker who will actually die if she eats it)
My parent in the past was eating a bunch of chocolate when she was young but after a few decades she suddenly became alergic to it,is it common for someone who could eat something just fine to suddenly have issues eating it in the future?
Yes. An allergy cannot happen without prior exposure to a substance because an allergy is your body's immune system deciding something isn't good that is actually harmless.
You can become allergic to anything at any time in your life iirc. I'm sure there's genetic predisposition to allergies to some degree, but it's largely an immune response thing. There's even studies being done that through repeat exposure we can retrain the body to stop having an allergy to some degree. Study ongoing but current trials have suggested that within a year or treatment some people have been able to indulge in small amounts of something to the point where they can have exposure incidents without needing life saving medication if they catch on fast enough. People with peanut allergy being able to take a few bites of something with peanuts in it before realising the issue and being okay or at least not fucking dead so long as they stop.
God the gluten diet genuinely annoys me tbh
they're just so annoying, and none of the food is good at all
I'd be thankful if I had Celiacs though, more options for them
When I was 8 I used to tell everyone that I had an allergy to lobster. No idea why, as I've never even eat lobster. I just really wanted to be uNiQuE and I guess my lil' brain decided a lobster allergy was the best way to achieve that.
If you want to be truly unique, try being genuinely allergic to the most common antibiotics used like I am
na my coworker with celiacs is very paranoid about everything.
8-year-old me would think you're so fucking cool
hey, I'm allergic to penicillin, high five!
Oh shit we can be suffocation bro's
Lets take a pill and choke in agony together!
My friend with celiacs loves to Facebook-post whenever her gluten-test rings back a dangerous-for-her level of gluten in "gluten-free" meals.
Her Facebook gets a lot of activity in this regard.
I'm allergic to amoxicillin, does that count?
I thought I was allergic to seafood for a few years because I had a regular allergy test (I got other allergies) and shellfish came up. Then one time I was at my uncle's and I ate some fish and had an allergic reaction which was odd because I've never had a food reaction before. I'm wondering if it was a mental thing because later on I had another allergist tell me no dude you're not allergic to seafood at all. Or any food.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I used to eat fuck tons of shrimp as a kid. Like, I enjoyed it so much that every opportunity I had to eat it was taken, whether in the store or restaurant. I once ate an entire pound in a day.
Then, I developed a shellfish allergy, perhaps because of my level of consumption. Just enough of an allergy to make eating it not worth it. Makes my lips and throat itch for hours after, but no swelling.
TIL I should be calling it a seafood intolerance instead of an allergy.
I'm allergic to that as well, we can be infection twins
I once had a reaction to some cashews like 15 years ago. It still shows up on skin tests though, so I just assume I’m allergic.
I've been allergic to some food colourings for the longest time after a bad reaction but due to some bad communication I never actually figured out what kind until last year where I got another reaction.
Good thing food colouring isn't necessary for good food.
I'd trade an allergy of something for not lactose intolerance. My ass is tore up from burritos.
have you tried lactase pills?
I'm allergic to sunscreen. Fuck, I just realized that if I'm going into the military that might be an issue. I'll be outside a shit ton.
You might be allergic to an ingredient in the sunscreen if it's some "Essence of Bullshit" type one.
I've tried every sunscreen under the sun (pun intended), even the one that advertise themselves as not causing allergic reaction. I always get an irritated skin no matter what.
Do they all contain Zinc?
I'll go over my pharmacy this week and check out your lead.
I'm allergic to beans because fuck beans.
But seriously now, I am allergic to some kinds of red fish. Makes my throat close up a bit and get rashy.
I have a Tums intolerance. No clue how that works, but it counts, right?
hey half of them don't either
I don't have any food allergies, suck it world
However I'm allergic to dust, grass, cats and dogs. But not that allergic thank god.
