• US federal courts will run out of cash if the shutdown continues past January 11

http://fortune.com/2019/01/05/government-shutdown-federal-courts/ Companies that turn to the federal courts to resolve fights with rivals and customers may find themselves in limbo if the government shutdown continues beyond next week. The system has enough money left over from fees and other sources to run through Jan. 11, according to the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, which supports the judiciary. After that, nonessential workers at the 94 federal district courts, and at higher courts across the country, may have to stay home even as skeleton crews show up — without pay — to handle matters deemed essential under U.S. law, including many criminal cases. Individual courts and judges will then decide how to fulfill those critical functions, said David Sellers, a spokesman for U.S. Courts. He pointed to earlier shutdowns, the longest of which was the 21-day furlough that started in December 1995 and ended in January 1996. A shutdown beyond Jan. 11 would break that record. Whenever the cash runs out, the courts will begin operating under the Antideficiency Act, the federal law that requires work to continue if it’s necessary “to support the exercise of Article III judicial powers,” or the resolution of cases, under the Constitution. A Dec. 10 congressional report on the effects of shutdowns said that neither judges nor their most important staff would be subject to furlough. Essential probation and pretrial services officers also would be protected if needed to resolve cases, according to the report, which found that most courts continued to function during the 1995-96 closure. The federal courts of the United States are only running on asset seizure and settlement money.
"not important, me want wall" - Trump, probably
"I can't go to prison if the courts aren't working!"
Fuck it let it happen At this point I don't even know if I care anymore. This Wall it is just retarded
Let it happen. Let it fucking collapse
I'd almost be willing to bet money Trump still wouldn't sign a spending bill without wall funding even if he used a national emergency declaration to get around Congress and get it built anyway...
...This is going to effect Muller as well.
Special Counsel will still be funded.
The Special Counsel's Office is funded indefinitely and not affected by shutdowns, although maybe a judicial shutdown could affect some stuff but you'd think that would be covered under "matters deemed essential under U.S. law, including many criminal cases"
Trump must know Muller has something that can bring him down real soon, and only reason he wants this wall is since his name would be attached to it, and would probably be the only thing he would be remembered for in like 50 years time.
Calling it now, something crazy is going to happen next week if the shutdown stays and courts do shut down
Fuck it. I'd rather live through a complete societal collapse than let this facist fuckwad have his retarded ass wall. Fuck Trump and all the corrupt cronies he rode in on.
The Democrats tried to give him his wall last year, he threw it in their faces because it wasn't big enough. Give him nothing.
I say let the government funding collapse as long as Trump is still willing to demand his stupid fucking monument
Part of me wonders how long this will go on before something unforseen gives. Realistically how long before we lost essential functions?
Let it happen. Let this be Trump's legacy.
Likely true, but it’s not like the wall will last that long. The next president in line is likely a democrat, and even if just a few feet of the wall manages to be built they will campaign to have that shit torn down like it was Berlin 2.0

So, are the Trump supporters who also work for government related stuff that are affected by the shutdown happy about the fact they aint getting paid shit right now?
Probably royally pissed off. At the Democrats for not funding the incredibly simple to build and 100% necessary wall and damaging their own livelihood at the same time.
Not only that but he said he would sign any bill that gave him what they wanted so they gave him exactly what he wanted and he still rejected it. So they have literally zero incentive to listen to him because they know he can't be trusted to actually keep his word. they can waste their time and could give him exactly what he's demanding and there's no guarantee he just won't throw a tantrum and reject it because it's still not good enough despite being exactly what he demanded.
If the shutdown goes on for seven weeks, America officially cannot feed its poor at all, which represents a major collapse of the social safety net and immediately threatens millions of low-income citizens, a large percentage of which are disadvantaged children and a large percentage of those children living in households in safely-red states. By the end of February the federal court system will also be all but incapable of paying for anything and civil, if not criminal, court proceedings will be frozen, putting literally everyone's civil cases on hold for an indeterminate amount of time. US immigration courts are already not hearing immigration and deportation hearings for "illegal" immigrants except for those already in custody (as criminal court proceedings are uninterrupted) are being delayed, which means Trump's shutdown to improve border security and end catch-and-release immigration policy is... harming border security and encouraging catch-and-release, putting undocumented immigrants into the general population for months or years as their cases get thrown back into the backlog. Because it's a special carve-out and it's federally-managed in most ways, in DC, no marriage licenses may be issued during the shutdown. So I'd say essential functions are already beginning to fail. They're just not the BIG ones, like no tax returns because the IRS is rip, no IPOs or mergers approved because the FEC is rip, FAA orders all airports grounded and US airspace shut down entirely because they can't pay for ATC or radar operators, national borders closed to international commerce and civilian traffic because the customs agencies are rip except to tell people no. But if Trump wants to play chicken until Democrats agree to fund his stupid fucking wall that nobody but him and his supporters want, these things will happen and they will happen fairly soon, and the results will be catastrophic.
How much of Trump's voterbase is dependent on tax returns and food stamps?
They won't know or just refuse to believe it's him. They'll think it's the Democrats until they starve to death.
