https://gamesdonequick.com/static/res/img/gdqlogo.png GDQ returns for another couple days of heart-pounding, game-breaking action! How many people will be banned? Will someone on the couch tell us to jump in front of a bus? Could there possibly be a moment more awkward than green sweatshirt guy?? There's only one way to find out!! The event kicks off at 11:30 AM EST on the 9th and goes til the 13th. https://www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick Twitch feed Games Done Quick site Schedule Discord
Boy I sure can't wait for all the people who act like the entire event is frozen in no-fun-allowed mode even though it's greatly defrosted in that regard since last year's GDQs.
What did they do to defrost it because the last one I watched was just really stone faced and all the runners were mumbling/afraid to say anything because they'd get banned for having personalities.
It definitely has a lot to do with the rates at which people get banned. They take themselves too seriously because they don't want to offend sponsors and the like. For as stiff as the event can get at times, I do truly believe the intentions are in the right place. Hopefully they handle it a bit better this time around but who knows. That's part of the fun for some people.
What runs are people looking forward too? I assume some runs I might enjoy would probably be donation incentives
no vsrg block = dead event tbh
I always enjoy the TASblock. Besides that, I'm excited to see some of the newer games -- Dead Cells, The Messenger, Celeste, etc. Also a big fan of "I wanna _________ the _________ " runs.
Only looking forward to is Dark Souls 3 all bosses and Prey. Portal inbounds race is kinda eh. Especially since HL2 runs have gone under an hour now and it would have been really cool for it to show up but I guess nobody submitted.
HL2 got shot down along with another couple hundred runs. I guess they're trying to mix things up so the event doesn't get stale. I do wish they included Undertale, again. That was a hoot last time.
Happy to see CovertMuffin doing commentary AND a WC3 run. Love the fuck out of that guy.
Tio lazy to look for myself, are any Tony Hawk's on the schedule? Any valve games besides Portal in-bounds? CTR? Sonic block? Any goofy/weird game runs or blocks like Rocky and Bullwinkle two years ago? I enjoy certain runs. My favorites have been CTR 2016, the 4-person co-op L4D2 run and Sonic Block from last year, and the Tony Hawk's Underground run from sgdq 2016. The Undertale run 2 years ago was amazing too. Last summer's Cuphead run was excellent mostly because of the runner himself, it was very heartwarming at the end where he showed the art somebody drew of him.
That's lame. Source runs always have great commentary.
I'd prefer if you'd be quiet
Some of the expected run times are insane. Like Nier: Automata 4+ hours, Wind Waker 6+ hours and Final Fantasy IX 9+ hours. Besides that tho, personally looking forward to Prey, Portal, MGS 2, SH2, Dishonored and DS3.
Out of curiosity, what do you like seeing in a run? I usually gravitate to any that has a fun or interesting runner and to those where they just rip the game apart bug wise
Will the dilation station make a return this year?
I have a personal bias towards runs of games I like, like Sonic games, but A runner or couch that can be actually genuinely funny, and not just trying to flounder out puns every few seconds A runner or couch that is super informative can help elevate a run but doesn't necessarily make the run perfect A game that is above all interesting and enjoyable to watch being ran by good people Of course, TAS runs are always enjoyable because it's really fun seeing just how much the guys can make AI that break games. It's really hard to articulate what I personally enjoy out of runs because it's definitely one of those "if you like it, you like it, and you can't explain why" situations, and I imagined if I played games that were run, I'd enjoy them, but a specific memory that sticks out for me is last year's L4D2 Co-op run. It was super interesting - they used an exploit based solely around having more than one human on a team to even be able to do the run, they did every map, the run was super easy to understand, and the ending was fucking amazing.
Games I like in general. Runners who are interesting, be it in describing the run or just having interesting stuff to say. Games that look interesting to run, with a lot of tech. Games with little downtime, runs of RPGs or strategy games are generally snorefests.
And here we go! I usually end up watching every run, catching the ones I slept/worked through on VOD afterward. This time around, I figured if I'm going to do that, I might as well be a little useful and do a review of each of them. Is that something people would be interested in, or should I just shit it onto my blog that nobody reads?
Ohh, a Serious Sam run right at the start. Will probably take a look.
Give it a shot but don't drive yourself nuts. If you want to talk about the highlights that'd be pretty cool.
Ughghghegg one of the days has 3 hours of Pokemon Gold. Also holy FUCK the Any% of FFIX is TEN HOURS, that game must be long as shit
I mean it usually takes me a month or two to finish watching GDQ 100%, so for now I'd just be posting rankings for the runs I'm watching live. I'll batch them up to avoid spamming the thread too much. Yeah, they always have a super-long run or two to fill up the long nights. Last time it was FFVI and Skyward Sword, this time it looks like FFIX and Windwaker 100%. I'm not a huge fan of such long runs but I get why they do them. Pokemon Gold is at least a race, that always makes things ten times more interesting.
That Hollow Knight run was very fun and entertaining to watch, everyone involved was great.
Majoras Mask is at a shit time but I cought BotW earlier and as always, TASBot!
I really enjoy races or any other competitive sort of runs. I'm really looking forward to that Mario Sunshine 1v1 Lockout Bingo run. I'm also a fan of weirder categories. SotN blindfolded? Two Players One Controller? One Player Two Controllers? Reverse Boss Order? An entire RPG run that's RNG-manipulated? I'm down. In general, I like games where I can tell how well the runner is doing, whether that be because I've played the game, or because it's just obvious from how the game and speed strats are. Good technical commentary helps, especially coming from the couch instead of the runner. I'm actually not that big a fan of TASBot. TASes are interesting but they need really detailed explanations that you can't get in the short TASBot blocks. And I'm also not huge on runs that boil down to "play the game well", I do want the run to be at least a little broken.
First race of the marathon Donkey Kong Country babeeeeeeeee
Excited to see Portal inbounds, Jak 3 and PREY being run.
How is one of the runner's console outputting the wrong colours?
lmao someone skype called into the stream
