Doesn't the National Assembly have little power anymore due to Maduro basically creating a separate congress or something of the like, filled with only his supporters?
This is how widespread civil war starts.
At this point I wonder if it's only divine intervention that has kept Venezuela from erupting in civil war as it is already.
Widespread civil war should have happened back when the people were starving to the point of shooting each other over the fruit off trees in someone's yard. Or when the currency got so worthless that you could make handbags out of wads of their highest denomination and still not have enough money in that bag to buy a hotdog. Or when Maduro told people to raise rabbits to slaughter and joked about the nation being in the "Maduro diet" (and how it was a good thing).
I'm actually amazed there hasn't been a civil war given the circumstances. You would think with all the protest it would had went full blown civil war
Except this is why Venezuela confiscated all known legal guns a decade ago, so that any civil war would be easy to trample because the populace has no weapons with which to fight it.
Because the police and military have been stuck full of his supporters and they're being kept housed and fed so they remain loyal.
A lot of Libyans and Ukrainians didn't have weapons to start out with. What did they do? Stormed armories and police stations.
