My step father is helping trial one of these, or a similar one. Not sure on the name but it's the same breathalyzer for cancer deal.

Was already diagnosed with lung cancer so it's no help to him but he can help them check their detection.

This is actually not confirmed. Most of the studies on this have shown that dogs seem to semi-reliably tell if a person has cancer from whatever samples they're given, however none of these studies are very large so it could just be total bullshit. Also, the biggest problem with these studies is that they never name a specific chemical or, well, anything as to what the dogs are smelling. We current theory is that cancerous cells give off 'volatile chemicals' and that's what the dogs are smelling. This also makes it really hard to study overall since if that's true we still have no clue what those are.
