Wow, I'm not sure why Yahtzee even bothered reviewing it since it's so clearly not his thing. How dare he criticize something I like.

Do people still pay attention to his criticisms? I'm pretty much in only for the cynicism and punchy jokes at this point.
There's something you come to understand about smash brothers that I think no other game but Smash64 captured. If you watch the opening cinematic of that game it all just makes perfect sense what specific feeling that game is supposed to tap into.
Yahtzee has to get at least 1 thing wrong every time he reviews a Smash Bros game, it's like tradition
Today's is "you can't even see what series the spirit is from" even though you totally can, it's in the spirit list
I take it as a given now that Yahtzee will never appreciate how good Smash Bros is but he doesn't play the multiplayer so I don't know exactly how anyone expects him to. I would have been fine with him never reviewing another Smash Bros game but I guess there's not much that can be done about it.
Pretty sure the entire first minute and a half covers your premise. The reason he gets it wrong is because he doesn't care about the specifics because he's not interested in the mechanics or the genre framing.
This is not a thing. A review isn't an objective benchmark and never will be. It's very long 100% subjective opinion, and it'll be tomorrow too.
Sorry, what I should have said was, I usually agree with most of his criticisms.
