darn Russia, first they steal the election, then the magnetic north
Could it be happening slowly?

slowly
Well given the article says it normally takes centuries, i'd reckon in this case it's happening rather quickly.
It's also moving "sideways" rather than "down," which is apparently the main source of concern.
It Is Time (ominous movie trailer voice) For Another Disaster Movie Based On A Natural Event.
just fucking end us already
So this isn't the apocalypse right?
i prefer to see it as a new beginning
lmao you suckers actually think the earth has magnetic fields
Imagine after all the huge disaster movies that the world just ends cos some wiggly magnet lines
Starring Nicholas Cage
Isn't this literally the starting plot for The Core?

You silly geese. It's just the Earth(which is flat), experiencing too much electron fro. All the cemtrials that Hillary put in the water
What they do know is that the World Magnetic Model (WMM) — a representation of the global magnetic field — is in need of an update. The problem: they can’t update it until the government shutdown ends.
the wall is just a diversion
I wonder if this is related to or caused by the shitloads of big earthquakes we've been having.
Yeah, likely.
They are speculating it's a large amount of molten iron jetting about.
The magnetic field is governed by the molten core, which I think is very disassociated with our crust-based earthquakes
So like a deep dish pizza
Our magnetic field is tied to our core, earthquakes happen because of plate tectonics. The two events are completely and utterly unrelated.
According to this article, we've known that the magnetic field has been headed towards Siberia since at least 2014.

A weakening magnetic field may indicate an impending reversal, which scientists predict could begin in less than 2,000 years.
dang better hope garry had fp backed up yesterday
I don't know if this is related, but my company in Germany already had to deal with a few birds falling down from the sky and hitting our building's windows this Friday.
It would make sense since birds rely on magnetic fields for navigation (do they?) but still it's pretty sad.
RIP winged fams, hope this shit stabilizes itself soon
RIP compasses. 221 B.C. - 2xxx
Compasses are already off by up to 30 degrees in some areas due to magnetic declination. It's why old maps are so wobbly and blobby looking.
