https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jan/11/venezuela-maduro-juan-guaido-assume-presidency Juan Guaidó told a rally in Caracas that Maduro – who began his second six-year term as president on Thursday amid a tempest of international condemnation – was an illegitimate “usurper”.
It's honestly a miracle that Venezuela hasnt already devolved to civil war, though I dont think that miracle is gonna last much longer
the US probably hasn't been running guns to the rebels yet, though with the amount of reaganites and Nixon aids in the WH who knows. They fucked up just abiut every other south american country
https://twitter.com/joseolivaresm/status/1084480354222776321 he's been detained you'll be shocked at just how awful Latin American governments can be when the US is not involved as well. which is the case here.
point taken, we certainly haven't given south america much of a chance by overthrowing any slightly leftist government, we sometimes literally killed any centrist leaders
Maduro has been around since 2013, unopposed. He's pretty far from left. He's the reason why I'm an expat, by the way, as with my entire family, and most of my friends, he made the country impossible to live in, as smug white American leftists complained about every possible action that could have possibly helped our situation.
he's a dictator that denies the reality in front of him and his government. There's not a whole lot that the US could do to make Venezuela better, we could invade and cause a massive humanitarian crisis in a very fragile region, or we could sanction him and the government country to try to force change but that'd collapse what little economy exists.
