Regardless of one's stand on the issue, I do believe this may be required. Not only Germany, but the entire EU, needs to be prepared when inevitably another huge influx of migrants will occur due to climate change in the future. And, perhaps, it would put some peoples mind at ease if a review is conducted, since the event is largely responsible for spawning so many far-right parties across Europe.
Hopefully next time al of the EU cooperates rather than refuse for selfish reasons, that's the reason this turned into a crisis. And more money given to NGOs and educative systems so they don't feel they on their own on an unknown place without being able to communicate.
Before someone inevitably will show up to tell us how awful Merkel is and how people don’t support her anymore https://twitter.com/casmudde/status/1084085060473679872?s=21
I've said it before and I'll say it again. The only reason there was a migration crisis was because governments like Merkel's went out and said "Oh yeah, come to Europe it's fucking great." and then didn't fucking bother to prepare for the people who would arrive. They did it to look good, not to help people, which ironically enough made them look like a bunch of incompetent bozos. Migrants coming over is fine, but you have to have a fucking plan on what you're going to do with them rather than letting them rot in holding centres for months on end, or shipping 300 of them out to a village of 100 and being shocked when the plumbing can't handle all the shit, literally.
They were already in Europe though. Germany said they were welcome to take pressure off of countries like Italy and the Balkans, where loads of refugees were coming in.
Yeah, but they weren't in Germany. Then Merkel said they should come over, and that people fleeing from war zones should seek shelter in Europe, which is entirely fair. For making the trek the migrants were greeted with shit conditions and a very hostile welcome from locals who were riled up about 'millions' of migrants entering Europe (not realising that Europe has hundreds of millions of people already, so a few million more would barely make a difference.)
The reaction of hostile locals has been given an unproportionate amount of attention. There were also many people who volunteered to help refugees and many pro-refugee or anti-racism demonstrations. Some of those demonstrations were just as large if not larger than the largest demonstration against refugees or migrants.
I'd say the media has also played a very large role in this. Social media not withstanding, there were many news outlets who focused almost entirely on the negative aspects of the influx of migrants, and the outrage a relatively minor group of people generated. Thanks to them, we now have actual Nazis going around, and not only are they spewing their shitty ideology openly, but they're actually getting support from people. Not saying the media is single handedly responsible for the rise of the far-right, but they have most certainly played a large role in it.
