The wall is more important to Republicans then people's lives.
The writing was on the wall during the election as well. Shame it's come down to this.
The Republican party has become completely focused on hate, and fear, and suffering against those that are different. Owning the libs is their only goal anymore and will destroy and ruin anything in pursuit of
hurting liberals and blacks.
Trump supporter complains shutdown is 'not hurting the people he needs to be hurting'
Oh no that is REALLY NOT GOOD. I read a similar story recently of someone rationing their insulin because they could no longer afford it, and eventually they succumbed to their diabetes.
Yeah that happened just last week. Rationing insulin is very dangerous and something that you should not have to see in a country like the United States.
friendly reminder that the USA is the world's richest country and this is a genuine concern that its citizens have
And it's all because a third of the population's sole concern is that the negroes suffer. They'd rather fucking die than have to share quality, affordable healthcare with people with a high concentration of in their skin.
I still don't understand how the FUCK the US government works.
Obligatory "It doesn't."
And they do not care.
A man dies from not getting his insulin due to the shutdown and they do not care.
What does it take for people in America to wake the actual fuck up already? Is this just Fake News to them? If anything even remotely close to this happened in the UK there would be public outrage, protesters outside Downing Street and a public statement from the Prime Minister about just how much the country fucked up and failed someone like this.
What the hell is wrong with America?
Most Americans are too close to the poverty line to risk losing their jobs to riot.
The only place worth protesting is in DC itself, so you would need to travel a very long ways to cause a scene at the doorstep of people who don't care.
Federal workers obviously can't protest because that is a great way to not be a federal worker anymore and have a limited chance of getting back pay at all.
It is just a universe of shit over here right now.
Man if i were an american, i would bust open the doors to the white house and shove a broom up in donald's ass.
Why are people not rioting because of this?
I don't think that there would be lasting outrage here tbh.
This isn't really an America problem, Trump is a symptom. One man's wealth could end world hunger for over 4 years, and where people's very lives are left to the whim of an uncaring marketplace. Truth be told our government and many of our citizens in the UK are trying to dismantle the systems that protect us from that. Many would argue that there is nothing wrong with America, that it is functioning as intended. And I think the most compelling explanation as to why America hasn't fucking imploded yet, is that people can't speak up or riot or protest or whatever, because they can't risk losing their livelihoods. That's pretty genius as a system of oppression right? Again, functioning as intended.
gop's unfortunately normalized a lot of this
lot of people are weirdly embodied with this "you're not working hard enough" spirit, so anyone in need is just blamed for their own issues.
the rest is basically incapable or indifferent.
kind of sad, really.
Paying for insulin at all is fucking absurd, but that's what happens when the moral compass of your country is aligned by self interest.
The united states simply needs to grow up.
Because suffering from and with diabetes is a poor persons problem and poor people are both plentiful and utterly disposable. If you're well off and therefore obviously a contributing member of society as Ayn Rand denoted, you can mitigate the problem or literally solve it personally with your hard earned, like Donald does every day. I mean he's the very model, what with working so very hard all the time, not having to depend on anyone else's money that he totally earned himself by his own bootstraps; same for Mitch McConnell who was treated for polio at fucking Warm Springs of all places and grew up nearly bankrupted because of it, yet is more than happy to literally send people to their deaths because of lack of treatment for easily mitigated conditions cause ain't nobody got time to pay for that.
This is the character of the nation's servitors, those entrusted with operating in accordance with the will and blessing of the public. These people are evil. They are not conservatives or traditionalists or socially nostalgic, they are literal malice incarnate, they are funded and empowered malice.
If you give a damn about your fellow person, you will vote them out of power, simple as.
look how effective millions of people protesting the government over their healthcare bill worked. For every person at the picket line they can claim there's 10 back home who will be 'helped' by their actions. they should have passed that healthcare bill, everybody was set to do it and grind up 40 years of social progress, mccaine was a fluke not a savior. They were willing to upend the entire healthcare system for the worse and throw hundreds of millions into healthcare hell just to fulfill their campaign promise
Anything short of straight up revolt is unlikely to be effective for this administration. They are actual monsters.

"its their fault for not saving, not the government's fault for freezing federal pay for 6 years straight"
I keep a couple right-wingers on my facebook feed just to see what they post, and yeah. There's a lot of people who will refuse to support welfare and healthcare because they don't want their "hard-earned money" going to people who "don't deserve it"
It's a plague of people who have been lucky enough to never have been at a point in their lives where they weren't capable of helping themselves.
For a $300 copay, how much insulin do you get? a month? a week?
Depends on where you get your insulin from, I imagine. You can probably get a fairly cheap vial at walmart or something, but I imagine that varies with state.
A quick google search came up with this chart, but there's no sources on these numbers so who knows

Do you know how much a vial or pen is, in terms of uses? is it a one time usage thing? or can you reuse a vial? or does it depend on the patient
That I do not know. I'm sure it depends on which type of diabetes you have and what you're using it for (at mealtime or just with low blood sugar, insulin resistance, etc). According to dtc.ucsf.edu, the total daily usage of insulin for a 160 lbs individual is upwards of 40 units a day. Assuming your average vial of insulin contains 10 ml of liquid, then you can get around 1000 units of insulin per vial. So I guess around 25 injections per vial?
I could be completely wrong about all this, but from what I've read it seems like maybe a month's worth of insulin per 10 ml vial? Regardless, that seems too little to be risking health complications over for a $300 copay.
We could try to contact her and set up a gofundme. $300 isn't too much for a few people on the internet to put together
I use 100ml every 3 days. A vial is typically 300ml. You cannot reuse the insulin, your body absorbs it after injection. Rationing it is literally just fasting, your body generates glucose naturally (called a basal rate) which is what the insulin will be used to keep down. Eating at all will expend more insulin.
Getting her one bottle will help a bunch, but for only around 9 days, she should check out her doctor office for trial bottles.
When you get yours from the pharmacy, how many dosages do you usually get at once? a 30 day supply? 90 day supply? I'm wondering how much $300 gets her. What is that copay for I wonder
Jesus, what garbage heap of a person wrote this?

Okay, never mind.
I usually get a month's supply, with health insurance that's usually 300$. Without health insurance it would be around $1200 USD, maybe more.
ya they let anyone with a pulse and a conservative bent publish on their opinion page, its just absolute trash
