Should have done it years ago
This is the thing that does it, seriously? A thing that's being an on-going issue on the platform for years? I wonder if it's because it can't be monetized like the slew of questionable content aimed at babies, children, and young teens. YouTube said in its announcement that it worked with child psychologists to develop the new rules, and said that pranks showing "the fake death of a parent or severe abandonment or shaming for mistakes" will be punished. Better late then never, but an entire age group almost slipped by there, team.
no they won't
How about finally doing something to the Pauls? oh who are we kidding right? lol
remember hot coil challenge ?
This may sound good, but they're taking this to the extreme end. Rusty cage, a user who does Knife Games (on him self for the record, he is a professional) had to take down ALL his Knife game videos after this was implemented otherwise he'd be likely terminated.
Really? This is the one that goes too far? Not the ones where they pretend to do drive-bys in shady neighborhoods?
Better never than late. It's just going to be used to further fuck people that don't deserve it over. Even if it hits the intended targets it'll hit 100 other people that didn't do shit, as always. Fixing wounds by peeling the vein out
Always needed to be reminded every time YT makes a policy change they fuck legit channels.
It took them this long to do this? Hot Coil challenge? Tide Pod challenge? There's some others I can't think of right now but these were the worst.
Can a decent competitor show up so we can finally stop using the garbage site that is YouTube?
I sure am glad they consulted a child psychiatrist to help nail down just what is considered to be abuse because apparently putting a child in a situation that would mentally scar them is too loose a definition for some people. If your "prank" involves mentally harrassing or humiliating a child then YouTube should not only remove your video but also direct it to child protective services. It's absolutely disgusting that some parents (if you can call them that) have gotten it into their heads that making a child cry is funny because "someone on YouTube did it and look they didn't get in trouble so it must be okay". People need to read about the kinds of videos that get sent in to America's Funniest Videos that actually end with the sender getting a visit from the police and child protective services due to the actual abuse they inflicted upon their kid. /mini rant
Man, I remember the good old days of the "shoot-yourself-in-the-head" challenge.
So the birdbox challenge got so much attention that the advertisers noticed and started pulling their advertising again? I mean it's good that it's forcing YouTube to do something about it, but it's hard to applaud them when there's already been years of this stuff happening without any sort of consequence. The fact DaddyOFive lasted so long and was only stopped when people started calling out the parents and YouTube shows they don't give a shit, and will only change anything for the better if their income is at risk, either by viewers or advertisers.
Oh look, youtube being years behind the worst of it.
Man, why can't we go back to like Ice Bucket challenge things. Non-harmful challenges that bring awareness and help raise money.
Imagining a board meeting where everyone comes together to decide the harmful and dangerous channels should be taken care of, and one dude is super hyped to finally take care of the neo nazis only to find out this is what they meant.
So that prank where a woman literally fucking shot her husband in the chest with a deagle because he thought a textbook could stop a bullet wasn't enough for YT to bat an eye, but god forbid we use bird box
Dumping ice water on your head can put you into shock.
Why are people so fucking stupid? We need to have big disclaimers before movies and videos that say in big white text DO NOT TRY ANYTHING YOU SEE HERE AT HOME, though people are retarded so they'll most likely do it anyway.
Come now, the ALS ice bucket challenge was legitimately harmless (other than the people that took it to the extreme and used thousands of pounds of water).
