Bethesda says that if you locate an exploit, "stop using it immediately and let our Support team know in a ticket." I still find that situation hilarious: stop what you're doing, the police will be there momentarily to question you. Don't worry, you're not in trouble!
Good luck with that Bethesda! As one commenter pointed out:
How do I know it's an exploit and not a feature?
I'm sure the 2 people playing will be more than willing to helm.
"Haha wow! Bethesda are so wrong for asking people to report exploits!"
I mean jesh, there are huge things Bethesda fucked up on but sometimes I think people are just trying to shit on Bethesda just to shit on Bethesda. Can't wait to see all the "Legit" players banned for "Mouse software that came with their mouse"
Oh no, exploits would break the delicate balance of the game
Nothing wrong with that stance.
Thats pretty much how every MMO handles stuff like that.
Sure, but they deserve it. People were too lenient with whatever shit Bethesda was pulling off before.
In regards to other MMOs, they also do their own checks for exploits on top of asking for support tickets with info. So far, this is just "tell us because we can't figure it out" and not much else. Even worse when they resorted to blackmail ("Your account will remain locked until you reply to this ticket") to get people to disclose how they got into the dev room.
At this rate all these daily " Fallout 76, HaHa! " reports are just becoming mindless now.
I mean I get it, Fallout 76 had a horrible launch. The months preceding it have been nothing short of a nightmare.
But, really Bethesda asking the community to report bugs?
Is this really it, the bottom of the barrel?
Does every little inch that the game moves in that funny?
I'd get it if Bethesda messed up again, but I mean it's just reporting bugs.
Something that EVERY GAME DEVELOPER does.
Must be a slow news day..
That just makes it stupid and monotonous. It's far better to shit on someone when there's a really good reason to. It's not like 76 is lacking in that.
What about this implies they aren't constantly testing for bugs themselves? Do you know anything about how game development works? Even with huge QA teams and tons of testing bugs make it through, it's inevitable.
There's literally nothing amusing or negligent about this, you just find it funny because it's FO76
game journalists are getting all their criticism of bethesda out while they can because they know the'll be going right back to sucking them off once starfield and es6 news starts
Imagine not being aware of the concept of bug reporting, and not being able to think for yourself enough to rationalize it when you finally learn about it.
Actually I do. I write game mods, so by extension I have to have an idea on how game development works and yes - even with mods, bugs slip the cracks as it would do in any soft dev project.
What I find funny is their approach to getting info on how people were getting into the Dev room (holding accounts hostage until they got a reply telling them how it happened). There could have been work in the background with them trying to figure it out - but that doesn't look the case at all if you end up blackmailing users into disclosing how it's done when the normal thing to do is either suspend the account or ban them, and do the legwork in the background to figure out how it happened (not demand it from users as a first step).
I mean looking at the letter, itself...

It does seem like they do have an idea of how players get into the room. But of course if your a normal player you have a chance to explain yourself,
if you got there by unintentional, and legitimate means.
The reason why they probably don't tell players how to get in there, is because I doubt
telling the player base for an online game explicitly how to break their game is a good idea..
I'm sorry despite your modding experience it's clear you don't really know how practical, standard, and essential bug reporting is to all forms of software development. If you are think R* and every other company out there doesn't rely heavily on bug reports you're totally wrong.
Now ya know.
this is really frustrating because i relied on an exploit to make the game even playable, the weight carry glitch. they fixed that, and since i have like a bunch of shit i can't just sell and the stashes only have 600 pounds in them i don't even wanna look at the (sometimes very cool) locations anymore.
Shitting on them for the bags and nuka rum was well deserved. Shitting on them for asking people to tell them how exploits are preformed is not
"If you find an exploit please report it"
Is this seriously news now?
Weird how Bethesda suddendly cares about bug reports, though. They obviously haven't given a shit for the past 7 re-releases of Skyrim.
The point is, Beth is going to get shat on either way. 76 has made them - for the time being - the laughing stock of the Internet, and for very good reason. I don't see any point in trying to split hairs and police what people complain about, even if people are getting a bit ridiculous with it. Even though this isn't the case, you kind of get the impression Beth can't actually bug test properly themselves. After all, despite their own QA department, each title comes out more broken than the last. Now they're appealing directly to the players, it's not unreasonable for players to find that a little funny.
Ultimately people were too lenient with Beth's buggy bullshit, and this is kind of a hole they've dug themselves into. All those saying that if this were another company/online game, this wouldn't be a notable headline. You're right, but not because people misunderstand game development. It's not because people are ignorant to the bugtesting process in other online titles.
No, it's because Bethesda just really is that much of a joke at the moment. Approaching the community and asking them to submit bugs to you is a fucking joke when you've released the same game 5 times and have made no notable bug fixes to it.
Bugfixing an online game is an entirely different ballpark to their singleplayer adventures, and I'm like, 99.99% sure that Bethesda were in no way truly prepared for managing this shitshow.
Well I woulden't say they released the same game 5 times, 4 is in many ways an improvement over 3 (just as Skyrim was a notable improvement over Oblivion) but otherwise I can't rate you sympathy enough.
As evidenced by the noclip documentary, they had to outsource the game to their many studios. Now they fluffed it by saying that the game was "TOO BIG FOR ONE STUDIO SO EVERYONE HAD TO GET INVOLVED!" which if you can extract the 3.5 liters of BS from this statement means "We had trouble AND THE DEADLINE WAS COMING UP FAST!!!"
Iunno, if people are going to shit on the game (which they're free to, even I will freely admit its many faults and I *like* the game) then I want to make sure it's for legitament reasons although... yeah, toad hits the nail on the head.
I don't mean to say they release same-feeling games. I mean they've literally released Skyrim five different times, all of them having the exact same bugs as the original version did. I'm counting the VR version too, though, so that's a little cheeky of me.
Holding their account hostage is a shitty thing to do, especially if you're unsure of how they did the exploit in the first place. They could say "jumping around this spot where you glitched into a dev room" is not a good enough of an explanation
Except in other MMO’s, you are very aware it’s an exploit and not a feature.
When you look at WoW, all of their exploits are definitely exploits, there is no question about it.
Fallout 76 it can be hard to distinguish what is an exploit and what is a gameplay mechanic which ultimately means the devs failed to do their jobs properly.
At least they're trying to fix bugs and exploits instead of the usual thing where they just leave it for the modders to fix it
Hopefully
yeah cause they CANT leave it for the modders to fix
not how it works, the dev room is in a totally seperate cell to the game world so you can't just "fall into it" if there was a way to do that then bethesda would be fine with that explination as if there is a door under the world somewhere to access the dev room then they'd realise and just delete it.
General opinion on the modding discords is that there was a chunk of modding done to the game to spawn yourself into the dev room, so it could be an exploit to access the dev console or edit your spawn location that bethesda isn't aware of.
In short bethesda's freedom approach to modding with their engine has come to bite them as now you have a thousands of people who know the ins and outs of their engine, way more than people actually working on the game.
"STAHP! YOU HAVE VIOLATED THE LAW!"
Resist Bug Report
Pay 20,000 Atom fine
Get Banned
Bethesda is so fucking meta.
It was just an example.I guess I should have said a tutorial quest that is supposed to give rep only once, but if you wait a couple of minutes you can redo it repeatedly for more rep. I was just trying to illustrate a point that someone coming across something unknowingly could still lose their account if they don't know how they did it.
