President Donald Trump plans to offer Democrats another proposal to end the shutdown when he addresses the nation from the White House on Saturday afternoon -- what officials are describing as his third offer to end the shutdown, according to a senior administration official.
Trump is not expected to back down from his demand for a border wall, but the plan will seek to entice Democrats by offering other concessions.
However, this plan is not based on negotiations with Democrats and White House officials are pessimistic that it will change much in stalled talks, because Democrats have previously refused to counter the White House's proposal.
Can't wait read the details and laugh out loud in disbelief and get depressed at the same time.
Good thing he's shifting all the responsibility for the crisis on our side on his opponents. Makes me very keen on the idea of putting asylums in countries that people are fleeing for being deeply criminally corrupt.
It looks like he's giving up. Now he only wants $5.7 billion and he's tossed on some more compromises. I hope he gets shot down.
"look at all these people I can deport, would be awfully sad if I did, could really use that wall though."
Give him it and using shutdowns to get his way will become normal
McConnell has "promised" to put this bill to a vote
They say offer as if Trump has not treated every time as an ultimatum.
Watch him just recycle one of the previous proposals made by democrats in a way to make it like it was his idea all along.
We'll have to compare these with the already proposed plans, sounds like he's caving and trying to take the credit.
He'll just make a really awful proposal then just blame the Democrats for prolonging the shutdown when he's inevitably denied as he's been doing.
a 3 year extension for dreamers?
ok
As long as we hold our cards, he'll give eventually.
With all the shit going on around him, he can't keep this shit up forever.
Hmm. Now whats a comparable concession to give for a 3000 mile long border that'll have runoff costs well into a hundred billion by the time its finished not even mentioning the maintenance costs?
He's going to make them an offer they can't refuse.
Permanent citizenship for Dreamers. Now watch Trump recoil in terror when Democrats ask for that.
Even though one year ago Trump said he would support a path to citizenship for Dreamers if Democrats funded his wall. Democrats offered him $25 billion over 10 years, the dollar figure he wanted, and the bill passed the House and Senate with bipartisan support. Then Trump rejected it because he suddenly decided he wanted more.
Democrats already learned not to negotiate with the hostage-taking President.
What are the odds that the current economic damage caused by the shutdown exceeds what he's asking for the wall.
I think this is a good opportunity. He's weakened his "tough negotiator" position by crawling to the bargaining table. Dems should counter with some serious shit.
I don't care if he wants his vanity project, the funding is barely over 1/5 of what was offered for border wall funding in Goodlatte II, but they should force him to stomach truly progressive legislation for putting the country through this shit.
Pretty high, I feel. And the economy is only going to suffer more the longer the shutdown goes on.
If Trump keeps the shutdown going too long, the US' credit rating will fall because of a deeply concerning pattern of risky behaviour that throws into question America's ability and willingness to pay its debts.
Hooray! Eternal gridlock
More reality TV garbage, if the offer was genuine we wouldn't be hearing about it on TV first.
UBI and universal healthcare would be an enticing offer...
Yeah this isn't a reasonable attempt to negotiate, it's just an attempt to say "We've tried to but the Dems refused! They're responsible!"
Fuck him. Veto override or nothing. Teach him a lesson.
Here's an actual deal that the supposed dealmaker couldn't conceive of:
-Open government first
-6 billion of wall money
-Let Democrats pick the next appointment to the Supreme Court, 10 appeals court judges, and 25 district court judges
-Get Senate Republicans to support Democrats' HR 1 anti-corruption bill
Never forget that this is Trump's gridlock. The Democrats are doing their job by refusing to waste our valuable taxpayer dollars on a useless monument to our president's ego and his base's xenophobia.
That would be really nice but I think the dreamers need to be finally protected and given a path to citizenship. It makes my blood boil when these kids who are around my age who have never left america are at risk of being deported to a country they've never been to nor speak the language of.
The offer:
Gib me muny >:[
GOP will see it as adding 3.6 Million potential democrat voters, its the reason why every protection offer is just short term.
