Monkeys” are still able to make a decent living, Alice adds, but storm clouds are gathering on the horizon: the Chinese authorities’ enforcement of labour and immigration laws is becoming increasingly strict. A growing number of “monkeys” are being apprehended, having their visas cancelled and given a few days to leave the country.
Deja vu much for the asia expats. China used to be a hotspot for listless losers 2nd chancing it (TEFLers) and making a bunch of money until they all ruined it for themselves by being retards and getting involved with drugs and prostitution. China started cracking down on them big time. While there are still probably hundreds if not thousands of TEFLers teaching there illegally, it's really become a very bad idea all because a few too many bad eggs let the white god element go to their head. Which is a shame, I think people who fucked up in life having a second chance to make a good life through teaching english (its not rocket science, despite what pretentious people with unemployable degrees will screech to the contrary. The people who teach university level english are employed in.... wait for it.. universities. They dont work in kindergartens or night time conversational english schools lmfao) was a good thing, one i infact recommended to a friend of mine whose only prospects were suicide or flipping burgers and living an extremely low status life living to work and barely making rent each month. He is now enjoying a much better life in Peru and might start a business soon, and a lot of that was enabled by working in china.
If i had to guess, China's labor laws specifically regarding work permits were probably designed with keeping people from poor countries out in mind. Like i said before, they were happy for many years to turn a blind eye to the thousands of 1st world foreigners working there without permits, until dumb people did too much dumb stuff and spoiled the party.
Can't get a better perspective than two white dudes who live in china, riding around on motorbikes and talking about it

What a strange experience that must be.
