(Was told by Hezzy a few weeks back that server threads are still cool, if not, feel free to kick my head in.) https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/229956/a1080da0-73f1-4840-b21b-ba073812bbc6/torkielogo.png What is Torukia? Torukia is a joint two-server community for Sven Co-Op. Server #1 (DARKSUN) runs a playlist of curated Sven Co-Op maps, and Server #2 (BLACKMOON) runs the Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut co-op expansion for Sven. I've been hosting Torukia since November, and though it's had a decent playercount, it's spent plenty of its time empty, so I figured it's time I open it up to Facepunch and "go loud" with the server after an extended testing period. In essence I'm inviting you all, whoever you may be, to come play. People who stand out will likely get added to moderation duties and I'm willing to take suggestions for map additions, too. Throw them at me here. What is Sven Co-Op? I doubt most of you will have this question, but Sven Coop is a free-to-play (and that means free to play, no payment whatsoever) game based on Half-Life 1's Goldsource engine. Originally made to be just a coop mod for HL1, Sven has blossomed into a game all on its own, and now hosts hundreds of servers and custom maps, all focused around cooperative, collaborative gameplay. Do I need HL1 to play Sven Co-Op? No. You just need to install Sven from Steam and you're ready! https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/229956/16080bef-ab6c-4aa1-8ab8-830ba4c7432a/sven.png IP: 136.243.29.58:27015  15 slots. Our general Sven Co-op server was borne out of the desire to have a relatively low-interference server with a tailored map rotation and hand-catered custom content. No more having to slog through a torrent of maps made back in '99 for HLDM with NPCs poorly ripented in, our map cycle is custom-tooled and regularly changed to ensure you will have the best experience possible. From Half-Life's Campaign, Toonrun, They Hunger, to the traditional Sven Co-Op two-map double bill, the classic server is sure to have something you'll like. I've tried to keep the map rotation and content additions relatively classic, while maintaining an air of freshness. To that end we've added a buymenu for some custom weapons (mostly from Quake 2) and some general silly plug-ins, but nothing that is overly obtrusive or a pain in the ass. I like to take a hands-off approach and play alongside players. All the custom content is available on a fastDL server, and can additionally be downloaded from SCMapDB incase you're missing something, or a download is taking too long. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/229956/44dbe5f9-b16a-42c4-a032-854c029632fc/aombunner.png IP: 136.243.29.57:27015  10 slots. Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut is a psychological action-horror mod made by Andreas Ronnberg (AKA RuMpeL) in 2007, and was critically acclaimed at time of release. In it, you take on the role of David Leatherhoff, a man addicted to a new kind of painkillers from a company unknown. Fed up of his vice, David attends his local hospital in an attempt to check himself into psychiatric care, only to succumb to his urges and take pills once more -- succumbing to a horrific nightmare shortly afterward that will take him on a city-wide journey... Our Afraid of Monsters server is designed and custom-tailored to be the purest experience of cooperative AOM available, and features a few tweaks here and there that fans of the original mod will surely appreciate while maintaining as little interference as possible. We do not do "David Leatherhoff" events, though we are open to closing off the server from time to time for 'private' run throughs of AOM -- these can be discussed with me on Steam or Discord if you wish. To make your AOM experience as smooth as possible, download the content here and install it by dropping it in your steam/steamapps/common/svencoop folder. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/229956/71212db1-184f-456b-a174-02d9550e87c1/discord.png The server also has a Discord channel, for discussion of the server and map votes. Click Here. Steam Community group available here, too. Hope to see you serverside!
What's the big deal with afraid of monsters? I always see mentions of it popping up again and again but it always seemed like it was just a corny horror coop mod. That said, I've always wanted to try it out.
It was originally singleplayer, and the singleplayer version has some really well-done atmospheric moments and pretty slick level design in a lot of places, as well as a nice horror-gameplay balance. Multiplayer waters down pretty much most of these aspects but it's still very fun at least IMO. If you haven't played it I really suggest trying it SP before you play it coop.
I'm sorry but your server is dead. Like 80% of all Sven servers.
Interesting stuff, but I personally prefer using twilighthalflife whatever it was called, since they've got a shitload of stuff to spam and its pretty chaotic
It is what it is, I don't host it expecting it to be full 24/7. I host it out of passion because I like tinkering with servers and I wanted a 'clean' Sven server for myself and others to play on. So long as at least 2-3 people play it a month I've no reason not to pay the $13/mo to fund it.
