What an idiot
Missionaries are literally cancer.
Leave them the fuck alone and this won't happen
The sad thing is that religious nuts will view this as gods justice
They're even bigger savages than these people.
Literally no one wants those missionaries there.
They do not give a fuck, they believe they are on a blessed mission.
It's just another way for narcissists to pat themselves on the back.
"I'm so important that I, and I alone, have been chosen to deliver God's word to these indigenous people regardless of circumstances, context, or reason!"
this is literally the reason they don't allow contact with tribes.
fucking hell
But if they die they'll get to go to be with Him
If he's dumb enough to illegally contact an uncontacted tribe, he's probably dumb enough to congratulate himself for personally sending them to God's kingom.
Entire tribes have been wiped out simply because a missionary walked through their village. People dont understand how dangerous these missionaries are. Even worse, once they coax a tribe out of the jungle they ditch them and those tribes people end up living in conditions worse then the jungles they lived in. They have no skills, no understanding of modern society, and no support network. On top of that people treat them like shit.
These missionaries dont give a fuck though. They know what happens but they don't care. They dont care that they leave a trail of bodies behind them, or that they actually worsen the living conditions of these people. They commit genocide in the name of "christianizing the heathens"
This basically means the missionary killed them, doesn't that mean the missionary would go to hell?
How complicated is the moral system, is it retroactive? The man is already dead, but he killed some people with his actions. Does he just go from heaven then back to hell once these people die?
I doubt he was dumb enough not to realize that his diseases would kill them, missionaries are zealots, not idiots. Hope he goes to hell.
As much as this sucks, this is old news. It was said months ago when it happened and this article doesn't allude to any evidence of infection.
This isn't the same. The guy that was killed was when he tried to reach the Sentinelese. This was in Brazil.
Well fuck, that was another Christian missionary. My bad.
Not to justify his actions but just to make a small point of thought, if someone is a devout Christian and knows full well that otherwise decent people will go to hell and suffer for all eternity just because they are, as far as they are concerned, misinformed you can see why some might think they have a moral obligation and imperative to do all in their power to prevent that from happening.
In fact if you really think about it, anyone who lets people willingly blunder into hell without making any attempt to stop them could be considered horrible people, like hell is literally the worst thing ever according to most religious text.
Again, this is just an "in a vaccum" point of though, I think actually potentially inflicting horrible death upon others when you know full well that is a possibility is just as bad.
And I would wager a large sum that he wasn't doing it just to spare them from hell.
Seriously, just leave folks alone. If folks don't wanna be bothered then don't bother them. They teach us shit like this in fucking pre-school.
Honestly if I believed hell existed than saving people from hell would take priority over literally everything else
But hell is a bullshit tool designed to take advantage of people's fear and selflessness to spread religions in a way akin to a virus
The problem isn't missionaries, it's the religion itself.
There's also the fact that there's a ton of sects within Christianity that don't believe or teach that your faith determines if you go to heaven or hell but rather that being a good person is all that counts.
It was inevitable, really - the wider world had to reach them sooner or later
So they deserve to die from diseases?
have you ever had a single opinion that wasn't complete garbage
it drives me up the wall that these "churches" put up donation spots at walmarts and the like to give themselves and some other people what amounts to a paid vacation under the guise of spreading the word of Jesus. It's absolutely nuts.
Somehow I just don't think Brazil's current government is going to care too much
I feel like we're aproaching an era where there has to be such a classification of crimes called terminal narcissistic stupidity. This kind of shit should be prosecuted as attempted murder or attempted terror. Being ignorant of the consequences isn't a fucking excuse.
Hey, evangelical preachers have been doing it for decades.
Exploiting religious beliefs for profit might as well be its own industry in America

I dunno', seems like a bit too wide a generalization for me. As with any profession, there are good and bad; right ways to set about your task, and wrong.
I don't think he has to worry about hell, or heaven for that matter. If divine justice were a thing, shit like this wouldn't happen in the first place.
Wish we could go back before expansionist religions
so before humanity? chances are pretty high even pre-homo sapiens had similar concepts
