• Border patrol shares video of migrants scaling wall with ladder

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released a video this week showing what they said is a group of migrants scaling a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border with a ladder. As many as 110 migrants made their way over the barrier, according to a tweet from CBP Arizona, which said the group was apprehended by U.S. border patrol officials. The smuggler who aided the group can be seen in the video escaping back into Mexico and was not caught, officials said. "On Monday #CBP #YumaSector Border Patrol agents apprehended a group of 110+ Central Americans who illegally scaled the wall with the assistance of a smuggler with a ladder," the agency tweeted Wednesday. Video of the encounter shows the migrants being detained by border patrol agents while the smuggler flees on foot. "This account will not be actively managed during the lapse in federal funding," reads a message on the Twitter account. A spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment. https://thehill.com/latino/426857-border-patrol-shares-video-showing-migrants-climbing-over-border-wall-with-ladder?__twitter_impression=true https://twitter.com/CBPArizona/status/1088160469305634816?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw
But how wall fail maybe am need bigger wall
Didn't Trump or somebody say the new wall would work because "They don't make 40 foot ladders!"
Bigger wall /s

Next these pesky immigrants will jump out ditches and duck under our bars!
Clearly that's not possible.
Top US strategists are currently attempting to learn how they obtained such advanced anti wall technology. All we know is that it goes by the codename "L.A.D.D.E.R". Need to work out source of device, possible Russian tech imported from Cuba? We've got our top code crackers working on deciphering the name. In the meantime the captured specimen was destroyed via controlled detonation after one of the border guards walked under it and stubbed his toe the next morning, it was agreed the device may be cursed and storage was too risky.
It's definitely not Russian, that's fake news. No Russia. Believe me, if it were Russia, they'd be too afraid to do it, because Trump is too big for Russia. Huge.
Damnit we didn't expect them to develop ladder technology this fast!
You're not supposed to be able to do that! Stop it! I said stop it!
You can get a 40 foot tall A-frame collapsing ladder and just put it right over the wall and walk on over.
As far as I'm aware it was some random dumb-ass on Facebook that made that argument, haven't heard anything from anyone "official" along those lines.
I'm shocked by the lack of appreciation for the fact that this is the CBP indirectly calling out the President on his bullshit because, presumably, they want to get paid and the shutdown, which is a Trump tantrum for the border wall, is preventing that. On a twitter account that is supposed to be unused during the shutdown, the Customs and Border Protection service a) demonstrated that they are still hard at work (and not being paid) defending the country's borders against illegal immigration, and b) walls don't do shit. Trump has repeatedly claimed that he's got the confidence of border control officers and approval from them to push the shutdown harder to build the wall. AZ CBP is repudiating every aspect of that claim.
I mean, yeah, or they are gloating about how they apprehended the 110+ people, and ontop of that they are showing how much a wall delays the crossing. The tweet by itself is hard to interpret as clearly one way or the other.

He did say something like "well how are they gonna get down the other side?" and then after a short pause said "maybe a rope". Look at the video, they are using a fucking rope to get down, Trump this idea was so dumb even a part of you KNEW it wouldn't work.
You could argue that the wall delayed their crossing enough to get apprehended. I don't think anyone is arguing walls are magical force fields. You'd have to be able to say whether or not the obstacle slowed them down enough to result in their apprehension, though. A wall/barrier/moat/palisade/whatever is only as effective as your ability to catch people trying to get through it. A wall in the middle of nowhere with no guards/patrols is basically useless. But I'd argue in certain places and with proper monitoring, they can make sense. Like urban areas like El Paso or other high traffic areas where we already have walls. That said, a complete border wall doesn't make sense, but walls in certain areas might. This is such a polarized issue with some on the right saying we need this huge complete wall and some on the left saying it's some useless immoral racist monument. I don't think the current administration and legislature is in the right mindset to effectively correct our immigration system. I think revisiting and improving our current barrier system and maybe adding more barrier in some places isn't a bad idea, but it's got to come with comprehensive reform so people can more easily immigrate legally and the only ones left trying to climb or dig over the border are the "bad guys" smuggling drugs and people.
Imagine pushing a plan so stupid that as you try to make it sound like a good idea, you explain to yourself (out-loud even!) how your plan isn't nearly as water-tight as you claimed it was.
