I really hope they give you the option to play the voices in Russian in the full release. The MC saying cyka blyat every five minutes was great.
That pickup animation is kind of obnoxious.
Apart from the obvious framerate issues, these kinds of games always seem to suffer on the gameplay front. I love the visuals and art direction, but the combat looks tedious.
And don't throw that "pre-alpha" shit at me, we all know that's a buzzword at this point.
holy motionblur, batman.
This thing looks kinda jank in its current state. Love the world but I'm not enticed by the gameplay.
Hopefully they'll polish a bit more before release.
Holy shit slavic magic can always make unbelievably good atmosphere in the games.
This looks like the classic Eastern Europe game-style of 'great world, art direction, and atmosphere' combined with 'janky, clunky gameplay'.
looks dope
Well if the STALKER games taught me anything, we'll have mods fixing that, adding in cut vehicle content, and then mods that add even MORE jank within the year of release.
you keep saying this but i dont get where or even how you got the idea that "pre-alpha" is merely a buzzword
Looks super jank, but goddamn, the atmosphere and art alone puts this thing into my 2019 games interest list.
Hopefully it won't run like absolute ass.
If the devs are unable to post non-stuttery gameplay, I'm doubtful it'll run much better for us.
Well the video says pre-alpha, meaning next to no optimization at this point and everything is subject to change.
Because a ton of games in the past present the word in trailers, and then they come out and look the exact same with the same lack of optimization. It's a way to deflect criticism of the game using a term that's actually reserved for textureless, animation-less footage. This is pre-beta footage at most.
reality doesnt align with their use of the term

what an actual pre-alpha looks like, rip ut
Probably doesn't also help that companies are really starting to abuse similar words like alpha and beta as well. fallout 76
The crosshair makes me think of developers who haven't played FPS games much or at all.
Yeah, honestly this argument checks out. The only thing is the fact this is a thing really bothers me because Pre-Alpha is a legitimate term in software development.
When people talk about subjects like this I'm so used to them not really knowing anything they're really talking about frankly, so they see words that are shown on a screen and assume that since that word has been used elsewhere in some shitty context it immediately means that that's how it applies everywhere. That mentality bothers me so it honestly gives me a bit of an impulse to say something as a result since people being insistant about using terms in incorrect ways within a serious context gives me a headache.
Knowing that's not what's happening here though, I fully agree with you. The fact that this phrase that usually indicates something is early in development is often abused to deflect criticism is an awful trend within the industry, and really needs to go away. All it does it make these proper terms for development meaningless, leading to people moving away from them because no one will take it seriously if the game is shown at any state earlier to the public. It's making the terminology turn sour, which in turn means it's becoming less legitimate and more of a joke.
This is a practice that needs to end since it's only going to cause more fury from the audience, of whom most probably don't understand the terminology. They will see these words applied to other projects in which use the terminology in a legitimate sense, and then have the exact wrong expectation from a product as a result. People will think devs in a legitimate Pre-Alpha state are "just being lazy", or if the word Pre-Alpha is even used they will just assume that the devs are "lying to them" like some other studio did, and rally people against them despite actually being in a legitimate state that represents that phase of development.
There's some things in the game industry right now that really bother me but this is one that I think could affect game devs, and not just their consumers. If these terms continue to be muddled the way they are by some developers then things are going to get messy in terms of productivity in other studios relatively quickly.
I will say however that I don't think the quality of art in a game's development at any point immediately indicates what stage they are in as games can have artists throughout the entirety of their development. This game, regardless, does look way more polished than a Pre-Alpha, I'd say it's probably a late Alpha at best.
