He said Abrams would accompany him to the United Nations on Saturday for a Security Council meeting on Venezuela where the U.S. will press other countries to support opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country’s interim head of state. A neoconservative who has long advocated an activist U.S. role in the world, Abrams last served in government in the Bush White House, first as a Middle East expert on the National Security Council and later as a global democracy strategy adviser. He was assistant secretary of state during the Reagan administration and was convicted in 1991 on two misdemeanor counts of withholding information from Congress during the Iran-Contra scandal. He was later pardoned by President George H.W. Bush. He was pardoned on the advice of William Barr.
Literally one of the worst people to handle this.
I support the overall goal of getting Maduro to fuck off and restore democracy to the country but I have absolutely no faith in the US or Brazil in doing this right. I'm hoping the Venezuelan people and army are able to peacefully coup without violence and without any shady fascists being appointed. Thankfully not only Trump and Jair are involved and there is a wider world wide effort right now.
For those who don't know, this is the guy that helped perpertrate the US-backed Mayan genocide (the Silent Holocaust) among other mass killings and attrocities in El Salvador and Honduras. Which he himself described as a "fabulous achievement" in the advancement of human rights in these countries. That should tell you everything you need to know about these efforts to "restore democracy" in Venezuela.
Now I'm not one to judge by looks, but https://rightweb.irc-online.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/elliott-abrams1.jpg This dude has the most ridiculous case of 'villain eyebrows' I have ever seen
