Discussion
I decided to revive the General Vape Thread because I haven't seen many vaping threads on Facepunch and I'm sure there's many other people in the community who also vape. There is a v1 which I found not long after I started vaping and is linked above but that hasn't been replied to since late 2017.
In this thread, we will be discussing all things relating to vaping devices - These include RDA/RBA/RTA/RDTA's, sub-ohm tanks, regulated mods, mech mods, electrical fundamentals and more. Here is a comparison between the atomizers. Here is a comparison between regulated and mechanical mods.
Health & Safety
For batteries, most mods support 18650 batteries while there are some which support bigger batteries such as 20700, 21700 and 26650 batteries. Many 20/21700 mods also come with adaptors which adds backwards compatibility with your 18650 batteries (such as the IJOY Captain PD270 and the GeekVape Blade to name a few). Some mods however come with their own built in batteries which cannot be changed out and often need to be charged via Micro USB. Many mods with interchangable batteries also have a Micro USB port for charging with though it is recommend you use a dedicated battery charger.
For handling batteries:
Keep the wraps intact - if your battery wrapping has torn, proceed with caution or do not use the batteries at all. You can also re-wrap batteries so they don't go to waste.
Make sure you're using the right batteries. As mentioned above, most mods support 18650 batteries and most other mods supporting bigger batteries have backwards compatibility with 18650 batteries though it is recommended using the same batteries as the mod natively supports.
Use battery cases for storing unused batteries in. Don't leave them in your pockets or your bag, if batteries come in contact with a metal then it can short circuit, vent or make your batteries explode.
Watch out for counterfeit batteries, they are not recommended for use for various reasons. You should always buy from trusted vendors, often batteries bought from Amazon and eBay are counterfeit, otherwise fake. This video identifies authentic vs fake LG HG2 and HE4 batteries.
It is always recommended you use a battery charger. It is not recommended charging using Micro USB or other means, unless the mod has a built in battery then you won't have any other choice.
Just like with many other devices, don't charge your batteries overnight or unattended.
Don't over-drain batteries, over-draining reduces the life cycle of your batteries and they can lose capacity the more they are discharged.
Avoid extreme temperatures, since it can strain and reduce the life cycle of your batteries. Whether by storing them in very high temperatures or very low temperatures. If you live in an area where the temperatures can get extreme, you can always store your vape and batteries in an insulated container such as a lunchbox.
Use the same batteries, don't use odd pairs of batteries. Using the same batteries ensures both batteries have the same number of charges and discharges, it also helps delay imbalances with capacity and performance.
Replace & recycle old batteries. Batteries often lose capacity and strength when used for extensive amounts of time and even if you notice it takes a considerably shorter amount of time to charge and discharge your batteries then it is recommended you replace them. When replacing your batteries, it's always recommend you recycle them instead of throwing them away in the bin/trash because it increases the chances of the batteries short circuiting and that can cause a serious hazard risk. If you plan on recycling batteries then keep an eye out for disposal boxes for batteries and follow the safety instructions on how to recycle your old batteries.
Regarding the consumption of nicotine, it is always recommended you stick to a certain amount of nicotine such as 3mg which isn't a considerable amount since that amount is compared to smoking around 20 cigarettes a day. Most eliquids are sold without nicotine and are often sold with nic shots which will add nicotine to your liquid of choice. Most nic shots are sold in 10ml with 18mg strength as nicotine is not available to buy in Europe in bottles bigger than 10ml or in a strength higher than 20mg, they are also commonly sold at 18mg since it makes calculations easier with most people aiming for 3, 6 or 12mg of nicotine. This website also includes a calculator which tells you how much nicotine you should add to your liquid.
For coils, different atomizers have different coils. It's recommended that you change your cotton/coils whenever you start to get an off-taste or a burnt taste and make sure you prime/drip your coils properly to give your coil the longest lifespan possible which will save you from replacing it more often than you have to. Depending on the atomizer and coils/cottom you use, I've found my coil life cycles to be from one week to one month depending on the coil itself. Here is how to work with a sub-ohm tank and here is how to work with rebuildable atomizers.
This advice is in no way authoritative, and you should always consult with someone who understands the objects & chemicals in question before pursuing your interests.
If you have any concerns for your health, it is recommended that you see your local physician or present yourself to a local hospital.
It would also be recommended that you consult with your doctor before starting to vape - particularly if you have a history of respiratory illness.
Feel free to join the vaping discussion and if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. Hopefully we can get some fun stories in the thread as well!

vape lords unite.
I've had this MVP4 for at least 2 years and dropped it at least 100 times. The button will fall out without tape and the finish is fucked so I put painter's tape all over it. The Big Baby TFV8 is older, broke the glass a bunch but it's pretty cheap. Highly recommend if you are rarted and lap things all the time.
One of us should write up about Nic Salts and the new devices that use em, since they're fucking everywhere now.

his & hers. Revenger X with the Horizontech Falcon tank and Voopoo Vmate with Uwell Crown 4. I'm waiting for a second Crown 4 with 20 mesh coils, excited to try it out for myself because the Falcon is a leaky mess (great coils though, the Falcon mesh coils have usually lasted me about a month before I felt the need to replace them).
What brands of ejuice do you guys enjoy? Me and my SO like most of Fcukin' Flava's products. We recently tried one from Beard Vapes, not sure which one, but that one was really nice. It had a very flavorful taste of cinnamon, lemon, something cake like and vanilla. Anarchist also makes some nice products. Our favorite is the Black from them.
also, shout out to vaping as a way to quit smoking. I wasn't able to quit until my SO introduced me to vaping. Started out at 12mg juices and now I'm down to 3mg. I tried to quit vaping too but didn't take long until I was smoking cigarettes again so I'll stick with vaping for now.
Gotta say, one of my favourite juices I've had has been twister. I can't really remember any other taste but that and fruit salad which was the first juice I had when I started vaping. I forgot what the mod was but I was considering buying it when I still had my Smok Stick V8 Baby but my friend told me his college teacher had one and it had fired overnight which burnt the coil by the morning.
Gotta say, I'm currently rocking the Smok ProColor and TFV12 Cloud Beast King though the ProColor is a temporary one at the moment. The ProColor was my first mod but I did move onto an IJOY Captain PD270 until it stopped reading my tank properly and then the GeekVape Blade before one of the battery contacts wore out and stopped working. Still waiting on a Snowwolf 200W-R in the post, I had actually bought it with a batch of TFV12 coils on FastTech but the mod went through restocking twice before it's finally been shipped so hopefully it arrives by Wednesday. The only thing that will suck though is that I won't have a mod to use my 20700 batteries with.
