every other democrat drop out now and save us the stress, thanks
Christ that's a terrible photo
To be fair you don't have many hair options when you're his age
It'll be interesting how he compares to a lot of the other progressives running in the primary. I was kinda hoping he would pass the baton to a younger, just as progressive candidate, but I'll still support him 100%
"Bernie 2020" "The second chance you need but don't deserve."
I prefer Bernie Sanders: Hindsight is 2020
only choice for positive change in America
This is going to be the Smash Ultimate of primary elections, the first debate in June can't come soon enough. I hope there's a big debate over the direction of the party and that it settles things. Also it's gonna be crazy cus California moved their primary date to Super Tuesday so a lot of delegates are gonna be dished out very quickly
Great, now Polidicks threads will be complaining about anime swordsmen too.
They intentionally set the primary schedule back in December before any campaigns were launched to avoid any appearance of bias, and superdelegates have effectively been abolished unless there's a contested convention
Is it time to bust this back out?
As much as I like Bernie, that mentality was exactly why Democrats lost 2016. Everyone stepped out of the way for Queen Hillary's coronation.
anime avatars are already a hot topic, so not too out of the ordinary
Couldn’t be more excited about this. Ready to volunteer and donate. We’re going to crush Trump in 2020...assuming he hasn’t been impeached and prosecuted by then.
Except Bernie Sanders is an actual human being and $hilary was a randomly malfunctioning deathbot from the future wearing a meatbag costume. Secondly the amount shade being thrown at Sanders before he announced anything at all guarantees there will be dissension without coronation day one. The white and gray stocks pork barrel plutocrats that run the Triangle (New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York) hate Sanders' guts and rightly so, cause corporate dick sucking and excemption/exception will be one of the first things he's likely to attack, and thirdly, he's not a Democrat.
It's such a great time for the Democrats right now. They took the House, Pelosi is slapping the shit out of Trump, people like AOC and Rashida Tlaib and Bernie are energising younger voters, Trump's legislative agenda is dead and his dudes keep getting indicted Just thinking back, it was only a couple of months ago that there was that immense feeling of nervousness and anxiety before the midterms, but it turned out fine and virtuay everything since then has been going great
This. I liked Bernie and supported him in the primaries, even though I think Socialism is a failure of an ideology; I didn't agree with everything he said or proposed, but it seemed he at least meant well and was open to listening to people he typically would have disagreed with (which is more than I could say for Hillary or Donald). Willingness to cross party lines and compromise is a rare and beautiful thing to see in a modern politician (hence the shitshow we're currently dealing with). But all the same, the DNC let Trump happen because "it was her turn" and Bernie is technically complicit in that, considering the amount of dust he could have kicked up following that utter sham of a primary (and the immediate purchase of a lakefront property following his concession felt like a properly bitter cherry atop the shit sundae that was the 2016 primaries). "Wealthy politician lecturing the middle class on privilege and income inequality from his third summer home" is far from my favorite flavor of politician, but I'd argue the left has a better shot going with someone like Bernie rather than an actual meme candidate like they're probably planning for.
Here's how Bernie can still win.
Ehhhh, I'm kind of iffy on this. I voted Bernie in the primaries 2016, but his age was pushing it even then. The presidency is a very demanding job that puts a lot of stress on a body. I wasn't sure he'd survive a four-year term four years ago. By all means, he can run. Maybe he'll even be the best candidate - I haven't even been able to look into all the announced candidates yet, and I'm sure there's more to come. I think we're in a bad spot if he's the best we've got, though. Far better would be someone with Bernie-like ideas and philosophy, and still significant experience, but younger and more attuned to modern America (and maybe better foreign-policy chops, Bernie seemed kind of weak there). Bernie's endorsement will count for a lot, even for me, but I don't think I want him doing the job himself. Also, the GOP propaganda machine has had four years to manufacture controversies against Bernie. I remain convinced that's the #1 thing that let Hillary lose - since she was the "obvious" candidate even back to 2008, Fox News et al had over a decade to convince their viewers that she was basically the devil, and that level of antipathy meant they'd vote for literally anyone who wasn't her (even someone who fits an alarmingly large number of qualifications for the traditional Antichrist). To neutralize that agitprop advantage, we want a candidate who's been quiet and not an obvious frontrunner, but still has qualifications and experience. Bernie was that four years ago, but he's not anymore. For that same reason, I'm not a fan of Biden for tactical reasons - no fault of his own, he's just too obvious a candidate, the GOP will have planned attacks they can launch as soon as it's clear he's winning.
I genuinely think this would catch on, even just as a hashtag.
already has somewhat https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1232/df6f2ed7-a8a4-4ae6-a248-e311e3969a27/image.png
Look at Canada. You could be us with less snow, or you could be 'MERICA where health care is a thing for rich people. We are hardly a "socialist state" in the sense that scares Americans who think the word is scary. I had major abdominal surgery in September that has had a massive improvement on my quality of life, and the only costs to me were buying dressings and adhesive to change the dressings on my incision while it was healing during recovery. If this was in America I'd probably still be suffering because I just wouldn't have been able to afford two months off work and the bills for a week in hospital plus a dozen post-discharge visits to the health unit. A socialist democracy, as opposed to democratic socialism, can only improve conditions in America.
I want him to win, but he's not going to. The opposition will play way too hard on his weaknesses for him to win, and I mean that in the most literal way possible.
Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not against certain ideas that are technically Socialist in nature. It's just that there's a difference between "socialized health care doesn't sound like a bad idea" and "I consider myself a Socialist", you know? It's like the difference between "we should have a secure border" and "BUILD THE WALL, DEPORT EM ALL AND LET GOD SORT EM OUT".
I had my older brother telling me that there's too many old white men in the government and that more diverse candidates need to be elected to properly represent the population. I get the feeling some people are going to be using that train of thought to argue against Sanders winning the next presidential primary, sadly.
Precisely. Sad, but true. It's fucked up. I just want to be realistic is all.
time to whip this out again https://i.chzbgr.com/full/8761588992/h787A13FC/
Jesus Christ, Obama looks young as fuck in the 2000 photo.
