• HuniePop 2 Censored on Steam By Developer Due To Valve’s Inconsistent Policies

https://techraptor.net/content/huniepop-2-censored-steam HuniePot posted a series of three tweets to explain why they’ll launch HuniePop 2 censored. Previously, Valve has stated that they will only refuse to publish games that are “illegal” or “straight-up trolling”. A nebulous definition to be sure, but it certainly excluded lewd content. However, some developers have reported issues with getting published on Steam after this policy change. Developers aside from HuniePot have highlighted their concerns surrounding this issue. As a result of these seemingly inconsistent policies, HuniePot will launch HuniePop 2 censored on Steam. HuniePot also cheekily states that they’re sure a third party will create a censorship patch and put it online. Describing the situation as “some shady shit going down” in a subsequent tweet, the developer laments the situation but nonetheless credits Valve for giving them somewhere to publish their games at all. I had a feeling Valve was jumping the gun on "anything is allowed" and it was inevitably going to lead into them messily backtracking when the legal and moral authorities start to take notice.
Oh what a crock of shit. I can, right now, go play a game where a high school girl gets raped fully uncensored. There's an RPG where your guy can be dismembered and raped by a gigantic monster with a meat cleaver and then the game has you still play your legs character as he crawls around with the game explicitly telling you his ass is bleeding from the rape. They just aren't going for the "1000 Year old witch in a 7 year old's body." Schtick because there are many countries where even drawn that is illegal and counted as child porn. This is just controversy marketing.
Funny how many of those games make it to the front page of steam? I sure as hell have never seen them.
Like seriously, the only content that has gotten in trouble is loli stuff cause that is illegal in more than a couple of countries. So if they're actually concerned about not getting on Steam, then that raises a question about the content of the game that people may actually have an issue with.
To add some recent context: Some games has been banned from Steam without explaining. Very recently, after some email exchanging, the explanation was that these games fall on a "grey area" about depiction of minors. Here is an email of one of the cases: https://twitter.com/VictoryProject3/status/1088792062227406848 The problem with this is that falls in a very subjective area and developers of erotic games are now scared about what is allowed and what not. The Nekopara developer also fears that Nekopara Vol. 4 won't be allowed to be launch on Steam at all: https://twitter.com/nekopara_pr/status/1088705771318108160
Yikes. x
For a lot of these games, it can be as something as simple as adding/removing a launch options to enable the nudity. For others, its just a simple (often dev supplied) patch.
What are the titles of those games? Specifically the one where you get dismembered. Just curios haha.
I feel like it's more of an issue with them getting pressure both externally and maybe somewhat even internally by certain people within the company to either censor or completely remove these games despite the lax guidelines Valve outlined before. Just as there's an audience that these games target, there's an audience that's appalled by these games even existing who can apply pressure in the right places to get Valve to concede. And no, I'm not talking about the SJW boogeyman, just that there are people who are passionate about their distaste for having these games on commercial platforms. As for why certain games get targeted and others don't, it all comes down to recognition and visibility. Chances are, more people in both crowds know about HuniePop than "Obscure Asset Flip Loli Rape Made in Unity 13", and as such, the more prevalent games that have larger followings get the crosshairs in these situations, even if they abide by these guidelines and/or get prior approval by Valve.
Fear and Hunger.
Once again, a great glimpse at where the Valve's priorities are. And these are do fuck all and count money.
Isn't China really pushing for an anti-porn stance?
A lot of payment processors, banks, have restrictions on what they'll let you "sell" or move money for. I've even run into DCs/CDNs and ISPs that put restrictions in their ToS for content they deem "immoral". I'm sure the pushback has more to do with doing business with companies that don't want to be associated with adult content, especially loli shit.
I'm like, the farthest away from liking these type of games and anime in general but me and my wife loved this game and the crazy shit
Lots of games are already blocked from certain regions, so China is not an excuse for this. Speaking of blocked regions, I got this gem in my inventory. Restrictions can apply to gifts as well. what's even the point in owning this https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/395226/c88c47b8-2679-456e-8561-7f90f759bb99/Steam_2019-01-26_18-12-46.png
A lot of this confusion and inconsistency comes from how Valve is structured. Remeber how Hatred was removed, and Gabe had to step in a re institute it himself because some dumbass employee removed it? The same is probably happening to games like this.
But that's not what China wants, they want cultural control as well. So of course leveraging their huge installbase as a way to spread that message of communism is just as important.
What the hell is the first one called? I don't recall any game on steam being mentioned as having full on graphic rape onscreen.
Ohh you can play just about any rpgmaker porn game. That is the staple of them is that if you lose a fight the thing you were fighting rapes your character.
The fuck? Never seen anything on steam like those. I doubt I could find them if I looked
Just want to point out that both of those are automatically curated to show you games related to ones you've been playing and have looked at before. They're not universal.
None of the linked images are safe for work really. This thing is the first monster you will likely encounter in the game. If it beats you it has a chance to take you down to a dungeon and rape you. In this image the arm holding the cleaver has been cut off, but if you don't do that it's attacks will dismember you. Ohh also note the massive "Stinger." Note here that thing has had it's "horn" cut off. I don't know what is happening here but knowing the rest of the game and what I see, it concerns me. And yes this game is for sale right now on Steam. Fear & Hunger
Real tragedy, too, that porn game designers are so creatively bankrupt that they can't think of anything other than "lol just rape them." There's a million ways to have interesting consensual sex happen, but those require entirely too much thought so they just go with the lowest-effort solution possible. I like to think that porn games have genuine merit as having high value as artistic expression. But until we get designers with both vision and the willingness to exert the effort to see that vision through, all we're going to get stuck with is low-effort rape-porn shovelware.
Top seller isn't, and I don't sign in to Steam in a browser.
thats because it was bought in that region, its to prevent gift reselling due to how cheap games are there
And then there's the visual novel market, where at best you've got completely inconsequential "And then they fucked" scenes that can be completely removed without affecting the story at all (Which they often are, to make an all-ages version for consoles), and at worst the author comes up with ludicrous reasons to try and justify their existence that just make the whole thing incredibly awkward and necessitate weird censorship for the all-ages version (Like in Tsukihime, where the main character's maids just happen to have the superpower of being able to restore strength by exchanging bodily fluids that's most effective when done through unprotected vaginal sex, so he needs to have a threesome with them to be strong enough to beat the bad guy).
Isn't absurdity a signature trait of most hentai?
I mean you should avoid rpgmaker games as a whole tbh
You know I was kinda thinking along these lines waaay back when in dota 2. Where in dota2 they put the Halloween and Christmas events by the wayside but every year there was a Chinese new year event.
