• What could/should vanilla cross wipe progression look like?

It's no secret that Facepunch want to (one day) make a sort of progression/reward system for Rust that exists through wipes. This progression/reward system is ultimately what they'll be using to make vanilla rust (kinda) wipeless. Something that remains and isnt erased wipe to wipe. Question: What the heck should that look like? No, really, what. Do X, Get Y.... IGNORING X, what should Y be? This progression system needs something entirely new, and honestly I can't even begin to think of somthing that would really work in rust. It needs to keep everyone starting out on a mostly even playing field and not completely change the game.... I figured I'd see what the forum could come up with if asked, I'll update this list of ideas with credit if anyone cares to give it a stab. Option 1: Player(s) who do X get skins Why? Exclusive skins to players who do X in a wipe gives them visual bragging rights and thus creates competition. Why Not? Not sustainable, once a player gets the exclusive skin, they'll want another, then another. Unless Rust can provide a bank of endless free skins, that players all want, this will turn rust into a "beat once then never again" sort of game... the skin(s) would create a win-state for rust, removing its timelessness. Would (probably) mess with the skin market hardcore... Option 2: Player(s) who do X get a head start or boost of some kind (time, resources, and/or blueprints) at the start of the next wipe. Why? Rust's all about dat loot yo! Who wouldnt be gunning to start the next wipe with an edge over the competition? Why not? Crazy unfair balancing issues. Whether through resources or blueprints, players who are starting naked arent going to like playing with people who have near instant access to AKs. The striving to get to the top tier is all part of the central game loop of rust. This advantage removes that loop and so risks making the game boring for those who do whatever X is. Option 3: Player who does x starts the next wipe wearing the (non-unequippable) golden/rusty crown Why? All the bragging rites of skins, without skins. By making the crown lootable off of corpses, people will have a petty hunt/fight over having the crown all the time. The crown shouldn't really do too much besides be awesome. That way balance isn't thrown off and it doesnt really change the game. Maybe wearers could be immune to extra headshot damage while wearing the crown, thereby making it more desirable? Maybe you get a reasonable boost to farming while wearing the crown? Why Not? .having a unique piece of clothing that could possibly despawn on a corpse is kinda lame it's not really a progression system, just somthing to squabble over players who start with the crown will most likely not be the player who ends with the crown (maybe thats good?), but devalues whatever X is unless X is as simple ending the wipe wearing the crown. Having the crown makes you a target, (again, maybe a good thing? it COULD also make you a RP god... maybe) Option 4: Player(s) who do X [Insert a new game mechanic and/or progression system here]
