https://www.politico.com/story/2019/01/28/trump-campaign-president-bolstered-by-shutdown-1131347 President Donald Trump’s political team has concluded that shutting down the government hasn’t damaged his 2020 prospects — if anything, they’re convinced it’s bolstered his standing in key electoral battlegrounds. Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale commissioned a survey taken during the final days of the shutdown that was conducted by respected GOP pollsters Neil Newhouse and Robert Blizzard. The poll, surveying 10 GOP-leaning House districts that Democrats won in the 2018 midterms, found that a plurality of voters blamed Trump for the shutdown. But a plurality of voters also supported his push for a border wall. Trump is expected to be briefed on the new numbers on Monday evening, according to a person familiar with the plans. While some view internal polls skeptically, this one could embolden Trump to take a hard line in future negotiations over the wall. Trump has a pattern of latching onto polling data that confirm his views, even if they’re contradicted by other numbers. It’s not all good news for the president, however. The poll found that just 49 percent of voters in the Republican-leaning districts approve of Trump’s job performance, only a point greater than the 48 percent who disapprove.
I suppose you have to spin it somehow...
Where do they keep finding these dramatic photographs of Trump?
"Trump wins, Trump wins, Trump never loses!" All you need to read is "Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale" and you know that whatever this is is gonna be cherrypicked bullshit. Jared Kusher hired Parscale onto the Trump campaign team, and Parscale is who Cambridge Analytica allegedly convinced to let them get involved. I swear, this poll was commissioned to soothe Trump's aching ass and increase the size of his tiny hands as he looks about finding some way of turning his humiliating defeat into a win. He can't allow Pelosi to look like she spanked him (even though Trump allegedly likes spankings?) in the shutdown standoff when he totally folded, and Ann Coulter's been chapping his ass since he caved in. Watch this, Trump's going to trigger another shutdown and declare an emergency to try and force the US Army to build the wall, because Congress isn't going to roll over and give him 130% of what he asks for. He's ultrasensitive to appearing weak, the House being taken by the Democrats means the number of times he's going to be exposed as being weak and ineffective is going to exponentially increase, and over the next two weeks right-wing pundits like Coulter are going to continue to trash on Trump for being weak and not crushing democracy even further to build the wall.

Or they're lying to flatter the man.

oh nate... be careful, they might give you a job offer.
The problem is that anyone telling him that the shutdown helped him is transforming his loss into a win and the sad little narcissistic brain in his head will backflip with joy at being told that and latch onto it long after its expiration date. Trump is more likely to fire anyone who tries to contradict him once he's assimilated this "fact" into his toolkit of narratives to throw at doubters and fake news. Because Trump can neverface the undeniable fact that Trump canlose.
ya the midterms were great because they picked up more senate seats which is really what counts, not you know... maintaining a once in a century full control of the government....
I'm surprised they're not just stating the shutdown never actually happened.
"It was the Democrats' fault."
The amount of ignorance based around his support base where I live is absurd. Its not just about how awful the 'dems' are now. It's because all 'politicians' are awful and trump is a business man who is going to bring 'change' and give us some kind of new deal situation. Its beyond upsetting that people will do anything they can to defend this man. I remember back when Obama was in office all everyone would complain about is the damn deficit which increased up to 20 trillion last I checked. Nobody cares anymore and its ridiculous that one man can perpetuate all of this through crocodile tears and lies.
*Debt. Deficit != debt. Debt is what the US owes to other countries, deficit is when you spend more money than you're bringing in.
My anecdotal experience of this whole thing is that a lot of people are buying into the whole "it's the democrats fault" so maybe it's not that crazy to think it has helped him.
