Man, between this and China's constitutional changes that allow Xi Jinping to serve as de facto dictator, it's been a solid year for authoritarians across the world. I know people don't have much faith in the West right now, but even though we've taken some solid hits lately, we're still doing well by comparison. Not exactly an impressive testament, but it'll suffice.
Can't be corrupt if theres no corruption laws. Megamind move there.
Saying It's Unavoidable Sometimes how tho like I know everyone is aware it's bs, but it's SO bs I don't understand why they even bothered to try justifying it
"What's the point in cleaning my room? It's just going to get dirty again anyway"
A lot of Russian laws are made to be broken. One example given for this change (which is bullshit) is a situation when, say, a building has collapsed. With victims. By the letter of the anti-monopoly law the municipal authorities are required to call for tenders to select a company that will then clear the rubble and provide other help to Emercom forces. These auctions can take months. Other example given is when it's a particular small town and local mayor has to give out a contract to, say, repair roads. But the only local maintenance company belongs to mayor's relative/friend. So yeah, they reach pretty far to justify it, and I especially love how instead of correcting these particular issues given they go to ease anti-corruption laws. Makes sense, right?
At least the West isn't openly bulshitting people about how someone who's about to spill the beans on something dying from tripping on a plate full of poison.
Corruption starts the become a big problem once you hit eastern europe. I can only imagine what it's like in Russia. I wonder if in Russia you have to bribe the nurses so that, when taking a blood sample from your kid, they 'get the right vein the first time'. It certainly is the case in some places. It's just a fucked up self-destructive culture of irresponsibility and one-up-manship breeded by the absolute tradgedy that was communism. Not only did it install corruption, but it installed a wounded mindset into the people.
But this is exactly why we can't afford the kind of slip-ups we've been making.
I-it's not corruption, it's just tipping civil servants!
But HIS NAME WAS SETH RICH! /s
you used to be able to, bribing isn't as easy as it was. The big thing in Russia now is what can be described as bribe distribution companies that when you pay a tithe to them they skim off the top then payout to the medical, government and police services along with a whitelist of who to give priority to. With this very obvious corruption you'd think "how does the government have any power at all like in other countries with similar problems?" The russian gangsters and government have come together into a weird symbiosis that is rarely seen and because of it both of them prosper. The government gets an invisible army and the gangsters get a free pass on just about anything.
This is why nobody should take communism seriously.
what does current day russia have to do with communism?
"Saying It's Unavoidable Sometimes" Only if you're a trash human being.
This is a joke right? Or do you seriously believe that russia or china have anything to do with marxism?
An attempt was made. But much like trying to get anything legal done without bribery in Russia, it has failed.
Okay, I'll admit I might have been a bit ignorant with the communism thing. Still this sort of behavior makes it really hard to take the Russian government seriously and I feel terrible for the people who live there.
