Yep, we all knew this already.
China not-so-secretly took over Australian and New Zealand governments, who fucking knows how many politicians are compromised.
Absolutely mind boggling that this story is public and New Zealand govt STILL tries to palm it off. Fucking disgusting.
I've heard a lot about how China is trying to muscle their into Australian and New Zealand politics, but how bad is it actually?
Does China have that much influence over those countries?
Sure does. People just don't want to realise it or don't care. It's in our politics, our housing market and our government likes to pander to their absurd territorial claims in the South China Sea.
For someone who heard about this just now; what kind of leverage do they have to be able to influence politics in these countries.
They are our biggest market of export.
Take it as you will, but the US Department of National Intelligence has listed China's counter-intelligence and social engineering campaigns as one of the most significant threats to world stability, alongside similar activities from Russia and the impacts of Climate Change.
Fuck off China. Quit being a cunt.
Flagdog is confusing me, why arent u closing and deleting this thread?
All exports, all imports, often buys up a lot of housing.
New Zealanders are not afraid to speak their fucking mind. This intervention from China isn't going to be taken lightly.
Her work uncovered, for instance, that the Chinese People's Liberation Army had built three military facilities on Australian Antarctic territory.
WHAT!?
Wait at home for them to break in again and shoot them when they do. Self defense
social engineering campaigns
I can't wait to see how they weaponize TikTok
We have Ricardo as our Weapon against the Chinese.
Can we even call this new system Flagdog?
I miss that thing, however broken it was.
Then you would probably get assassinated.
Are you honestly surprised? If China thinks it belongs to them, they just take it and you can't do anything about it because they 'legally' own it through shell companies.
She also unearthed the fact that a member of the NZ Parliament spent 15 years working for Chinese military intelligence but never disclosed it.
Jesus
Id be surprised if you found a member of one of australia's main parties who wasnt comprimised by the chinese government at this stage tbh.
fuck I wish the gov would stand up to this chinese bullshit but it's never gonna happen.
There's a reason my friend who works in Engineering calls all his mainland Chinese coworkers "sleeper agents".
China is a straight-up nefarious supervillain in a spy movie at this point, it's scary.
Is straya as much a Chinese puppet as the US is Russian at this point?
I wouldn’t say puppet, but there is certainly a power imbalance. However, no one can deny Chinese influence in Australian society. There are cases where Australian politicians have been bought or influenced by people and companies linked to the Chinese Communist Party, notably former Senator Sam Dastyari. And those cases are merely the ones that have been unearthed.
Another area of influence is academia; one of Australia’s most valuable exports is education, and Australian universities are under pressure to cater to Chinese students. Eg there has been pressure by Chinese students - backed up by entities linked to the CCP - regarding the status of Taiwan, and things like the Tiananmen Square massacre - which some Chinese students unfortunately consider to be western propaganda.
Shit like this makes me worried that China might be trying to carve their own sphere of influence.
"might"? No might about it, they've been doing so for the past 30 years at least, it has just accelerated in the past 15 or so.
Funny you say that:
