Ralph Northam (D) speaks at a women’s rights rally this month at the State Capitol in Richmond. (Steve Helber/AP) RICHMOND — President Trump, Republican lawmakers in Virginia and conservatives across the country attacked Gov. Ralph Northam and other state Democrats on Wednesday after they defended a failed bill that sought to reduce restrictions on late-term abortions. The furor escalated quickly after Republicans circulated a video of Del. Kathy Tran (D-Fairfax) acknowledging that her bill, like current law, would allow abortions up to the point of delivery in cases when the mother’s life or health was at serious risk. Northam, a pediatric neurologist, was asked about the issue in a radio interview and gave an answer that was later used by Republicans to suggest he favored killing live babies. The procedures, Northam said in the WTOP interview, are “done in cases where there may be severe deformities. There may be a fetus that’s not viable. So in this particular example, if a mother’s in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired. And then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.” Northam’s office later made clear the governor was talking about prognosis and medical treatment, not ending the life of a delivered baby. His comments triggered a GOP furor.
If you don't like it don't get an abortion, guy
Isn't that...just giving birth?
If you clearly care for children, dear GOP, then stop cutting or trying to cut social programs you hypocritical assholes. I thought it was terrible,” Trump said. “Do you remember when I said Hillary Clinton was willing to rip the baby out of the womb? That’s what it is. That’s what they’re doing. It’s terrible.” STFU Trump, who cares about Hillary, you are already President, to the detriment of all. Jeez, Republican outrage is such a shallow sham. Why do newspapers keep reporting every wet fart of a GOP stooge.

“DEAD ON!”
So wait, if delivering the baby normally had a serious risk of killing the mother, the GOP want doctors to just... Let the delivery go on and kill the mother, probably resulting in a dead child as well because it's probably a nonviable/deformed fetus anyways? Hahaha what the fuuuuck.
This doesn't really happen, though. Ceasarean section surgeries are incredibly safe and exist for these kinds of cases.
who knows when you have to put a lawyer between the doctors and the patients. Also no, pregnancy mortality rates have been climbing in the US for some years now sadly. Maternal mortality in the United States
this is more due to america's declining physical and financial health than abortion access
dear republicunts and pro-lifers: eat shit and fuck you for spreading lies and misinformation. sincerely, a doctor
I don't think we can see that article without an account.
Human Rights Watch reported this, tangentially related. Abortion rights are important. https://www.hrw.org/report/2018/11/19/its-your-decision-its-your-life/total-criminalization-abortion-dominican-republic

(AP Photo/Steve Helber) WASHINGTON — A Northern Virginia lawmaker is defending herself after her comments on abortion at a hearing caused a firestorm. In a video that went viral, Del. Kathy Tran of Fairfax County acknowledges her legislation, which failed to advance in the General Assembly, would allow abortions up until moments before birth. On Thursday, she said what she described is already allowed under state law. “Right now, women are able to access an abortion in the later stages of pregnancy under certain conditions with the approval of medical doctors,” she said in a video posted to Twitter. “I’ve done nothing to change that.” She said that her bill would instead allow women “to make these decisions and access these services in a timely manner.” She added that the same bill had been introduced in the General Assembly in previous years and was introduced in the state Senate this year. https://twitter.com/KathyKLTran/status/1090986962708779010
x draws Republican/GOP outrage is the surest way for me to know that it is probably a good thing.
Regardless of anyone's views on abortion, he is literally saying that the bill would allow for the woman to give birth, take care of the baby, then they can "abort" it. That's not abortion if the baby is born, that's killing a baby. Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam said; "If a mother is in labor...the infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians & mother." Even if it allows just until moments before birth, how can you argue that it is not killing a baby? The bill allows for the decision to be made if it "substantially and irremediably impair her mental or physical health". The vagueness ans subjectivity of "substantially impair mental health" I think is what some people have issue with. Also I think there's a good number of GOP and even religious organizations that disagree with abortion except in cases where the mother's life is in jeopardy.
my mistake, I've edited it with something that will work
