Meanwhile, https://thehill.com/policy/finance/427328-senate-republicans-reintroduce-bill-to-repeal-the-estate-tax
"the estate tax doesn’t serve any purpose except forcing family farms and family-run businesses to waste precious capital on costly tax planning and in too many cases, paying taxes on income or property that have already been taxed once." Excuse me? They're talking as if it's affecting a lot of small businesses and farmers. It only affects 0.1% of cases. Like fuck off, this should be illegal.
Why do I get the feeling that this isn't going to go well with him winning? Can't people be dodgy as fuck behind curtains and pay people off to vote for someone else? Or do other dodgy shit with money.
It's the same bullshit rhetoric. Every. fucking. time.
"My opponent wants to bludgeon the little guy to death with a bat, I don't!", exclaims man as he delivers blow after blow to the head of the little guy with a bat.
Holy shit the estate tax threshold has been raised so high that only 2,000 people in the country are even liable for it
should go even higher tbh
Never gonna happen, even if every single Republican were to drop dead overnight.
Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, gotta make sure they get their checks.
I mean it's not unreasonable that a family's farm might be worth $3.5m+ after all is said and done
Government is just business for Republicans, maximize profits and leave on a golden parachute.
The highest tax bracket over here in the UK is 45%, and that's for sums over £150,000 (aprox $200,000). Current highest tax in america is 32% on money over $500,000, how on earth are people against raising tax on quite literally multi million dollar incomes and nothing else is beyond me.
The sad reality is that most of them are against it because they truly don't understand how progressive tack brackets work.
Can't wait for republicans to campaign on tax cuts for the rich if the democrats get to enact some of these goals one day.
And it will be a winning issue.
What pisses me off is that it wins because the GOP deliberately lies about it and tells everyone about the high tax rate without mentioning the crucial bit about qualifying value for those rates. Something needs to be done about political gaslighting and lies of omission. It's too effective to get people to vote against their own interests.
Funny that you say that because Bernie's bill has a safegaurd installed to give 3Mil in relief to farms during Estate Tax proceedings.
It doesn't surprise me that Bernie thought it through. In general I support this bill. I think perhaps the beginning threshholds are too low -- or perhaps they shouldn't be taxed as high as he suggests -- but it's not outrageous. I have no issue whatsoever with the taxation of over $1b+. It's such an outrageous sum of money that even 10% of it is still staggeringly wealthy.
Because the GOP has sold the white working class the lie that they are all temporarily embarrassed millionaires who might be taxed under such a law in the future.
Propaganda.
This is the kind of signalling that is needed. Next election has to be a stark choice between the Republicans' right-wing extremism and a progressive new deal. Staying with the status quo will achieve nothing
ya everybody has been convinced that raising taxes on the rich will cause them to withdraw their benevolence and shower some other country with their jobs. invisible hands of the market and all.
Papa Eisenhower is possessing Daddy Bernie
45% tax on people who make millions a year? I make fuck all and my province has a 15% tax on p much everything. Doubling that plus a bit mpre for people who are extremely fortunate seriously feels fine to me.
That's been going on for decades.
