Well of course allowing poor people and working people an easy way to vote works against you, eh you wrinkly shitbag?
Only if fair and accessible elections naturally lead to more Democrats in power... You unforgivable sack of shit
"The far-reaching legislation would also prohibit the purging of voter rolls, require presidential and vice-presidential candidates to release their tax returns, compel states to adopt independent redistricting commissions and create a matching system for small-dollar donations to congressional campaigns, among other changes." Transparency and fairness is evil democrat communism.
Also heavily saying gov workers are lazy when they just came out of the longest shutdown without pay. Nice, i see being turtle with foreskin for neck tissue is going well for you.
Republicans are simply the fascism party now. They know they have to cheat to win.
A power grab in the sense that working people aren't pressured into abstaining to not risk job security, fucking Bitch McTurtle.
because he knows without voter disenfranchisment, the republican party doesn't stand a chance
"But how will we win if we can't have it rigged for us??" - the GOP
How is your GOP party this openly fucking evil. That's what this is. Evil.
Well at least he admits his party couldn't possibly win if the country were more democratic. Bit of an odd spin to put on it though.
McConnell isn't even trying to hide it any more, is he?
Trump has sent the party on fire and everyone is avoiding the fire extinguisher. I think he and other top GOP members know for fact that the only way the GOP can maintain any sort of power or prominence in American politics in the next 20 years is to rig it. Instead of, you know, changing to be more appealing to Americans, they would rather just cheat. I guess that's the easiest path.
This bill needs to get passed ASAP, hopefully in 2021
Can't without nuking the filibuster
I looked for his full statements to see how on earth someone can spin this in their favor Their bill would make election day a new paid holiday for government workers. And create an additional paid leave benefit for up to 6 days... for any federal bureaucrat who decides they'd like to hang out at the polls during any election. Just what America needs, another paid holiday, and a bunch of government workers being paid to go out and work... I assume are folks, colleagues on the other side, on their campaigns. This is the Democrat plan to restore democracy? A brand new week of paid vacation for every federal employee who'd like to hover around while you cast your ballot? A Washington based, taxpayer subsidized clearinghouse? For political campaign funding? A power grab... smelling more and more like exactly what it is. The scary part is that I know people who would agree if it was presented to them like this. The "taxpayer's money" shtick is expected but wow, the fearmongering over Washington-lead indimidators at the polls is fucking insane It's simple: the more people vote, the more Republicans lose. They have no incentive to make a functioning democracy
"You want us to spend money on a federal holiday? HOW DARE YOU, YOU ECONOMICALLY IRRESPONSIBLE POWER GRABBERS now excuse me as I support a federal shutdown for a goddamn concrete rectangle"
You heard it here, folks, voting is a power grab and the Republican party needs to be protected...from democracy. If that isn't an admission that the Republican party deliberately pushes voter suppression to keep Democrat voters away from the polls so only retired old people vote, it's aching to be one.
And the worst part is, the GOP base doesn't care. They literally would let Russia walk in and turn us into an authoritarian satellite state as long as Putin promised to make things harder for gays and coloreds, and paid lip service to the "importance" of the moral dumpster fire that is the modern day American evangelical church.
Why the fuck would a federal bureaucrat even go personally to the polls on election day. If they wanted to intimidate people at the polls they'd just pay someone to do it for them, they don't need a holiday to do that. If McConnel is sooo worried about government workers getting a holiday for elections, then let's drop government workers from the holiday. Only he won't vote on that either. Because he's scum and this isn't the real reason that he doesn't want this to pass.
These are one of those times I would like to see an average conservative try to justify this strategy of not serving the American people to maintain your own power.
Only Reps are allowed to have "power grabs" right? Such as gerrymandering, voter suppression, etc. Fucking hypocrite, they're all hypocrites.
He should do the world a favour and smother himself in bacon grease, cattle blood, then jump into a lion enclosure
So-called average conservatives have long since abandoned the federal GOP. Anyone who supports them now and calls themselves moderate is simply an extremist pretending.
Don't forget screwing over incoming Dem governors by limiting their power/courts
..................kinda rich coming from the guy who's state actually gives workers the day off on election day.
Unless you starved them for a few weeks first I think even lions might find a mummified piece of turtle jerky like that rather repulsive.
Making voting accessible? That's undemocratic!
letting people vote on the day of voting??? NOT ALLOWED
Seriously, just have a goddamn heart attack already, you waste of carbon.
