More like "An at-home DNA testing company is sharing its data with Federal agencies despite saying they wouldn't"
Never trusted those companies. All they do is collect and sell data, even worse because its your DNA information.
BuT ANCESTRYDNA ToLD mE I WaS 0.005% ITALIAN! I love pasta and I base my entire personal identity on garbage hereditary DNA statistics because I'm otherwise a completely boring person with no redeeming qualities!
Woah there, friend, you got something against Italians?
He can say that though he's Italian.
One of these DNA companies is run by Mormons and they store all the data in a Utah vault, so that when the Rapture happens they can convert all the dead people to Mormonism. Not joking
"The FBI doesn’t have free rein over the genetic database, the company said. “We came to the conclusion that if law enforcement created accounts, with the same level of access to the database as the standard FamilyTreeDNA user, they would not be violating user privacy and confidentiality,” Greenspan said in a statement. To obtain any information beyond that would require a legal order, the statement said." I'm sorry but am I missing something? Did anyone actually click the article before posting ? From what I gather the same lab that happens to do FamilyTreeDNA's testing happens to be accepting samples from crime scenes...??
Essentially (my interp): FBI makes an account. Sends in some DNA, asks, "who is this related to? Golly I sure want to know about the ancestors and relatives of this DNA." Gets results. Uses results to furbish a court order. It's dumb. It's really, really dumb.
And here I was hoping that they had some quality technology and were giving it to the FBI. What a fool I was.
A private entity storing people’s sensitive information on databases and making them “publicly accessible” should be illegal. This is a clear case of federal authorities using a third party to circumvent the 4th amendment, which blatantly violates the spirit of the law.
