Its funny, google hangouts was legit used a lot before discord.
I suppose they must have decided that they simply are unable or unwilling to properly compete
There's something strangely satisfying about seeing this trash fire burning higher and higher whenever I see it mentioned.
The only thing I used google + for was getting around my middle schools draconian censorship and using it as a psuedo reddit.
Wasn't there some theory that youtube was so intertwined with google+ that it caused all those crashes a year or two ago? I wonder if that was ever true, if it is they must have finally found a way around it.
I really fucking hated having to go through google+ to change anything youtube profile related.
The only reason that a lot of people had a Google+ account was the fact that it was stapled to their YouTube accounts without anyone asking for it.

Well, that's a lot of people.
Honestly, I would have happily accepted Google+ as a Facebook alternative had it taken off. But it didn't. Google probably would have benefited from advertising it while the Facebook privacy fiasco was going on.
Meanwhile, Facebook continues to just treat their users as dollar signs instead of actual users. I personally have stopped using Facebook completely long ago, but it still irks me knowing that maybe the information that I put on there is being used for something, one way or the other.
I personally think that Google is too "tech-savvy" of a brand somewhat deters regular peeps from trying it. Don't wanna end up a nerd, yo.
Apparently it's still seeing more use than Google+ is, they're planning on shutting it down slower, with the final date currently TBA 2020.
They've also apparently fully separated Google Photos and have no plans to shut that down, despite it and hangouts both originally being part of Google+.
Honestly, I used Google+ a lot before it was even integrated with YouTube.
Google+'s way of controlling shit is still one of the best ideas with your Circles and I think it could have been great if not for the poor name and the forced YT integration

I just need to be absolutely sure:
Stuff like Google photos, drive, docs, calender and mail isn't going anywhere, right?
If you even ever had a Google+ account you should have gotten mail which explains which and what things are affected and how to backup your info.
According to the email I got, Google photos will be fine. Just Google+ profile, Google+ pages (Old Google Sites will be fine), and Google+ Album Archive will be deleted.
