Check out the website: UOF Seems legit, think I'll give Homeland Security a call, as instructed.
I wish we could see more of the website before it was taken down, I can't tell from the article how clear it was to the students that they were committing a crime.

Thanks! Yeah there is nothing about that website that would set off alarm bells for me. They even claim to be accredited. The website was around since at least October 2016 so people who enrolled a while ago would probably know it was a fake school by now, but I am not sure about anyone who enrolled recently.
The red flags are sometimes difficult to spot: The same layout is used by a lot of fake universities. There is no current news on the front page, only generic university stuff. There are inconsistencies: "Graduate Programs: The Bachelor of Science (BS) programs...." (Treating BS programs like graduate programs) "© Copyright 2012-2018" vs "University of Farmington traces its lineage back to the early 1950s, when returning soldiers from the Second World War were seeking a quality and marketable education." And then, last, but not least: The glorious factoid page: Students who discuss classwork with a professor outside of class: 100% (Lmao) Students working full-time in area of study: 98% (Not sure if this means studying full time or working full time) Classes taught by teaching assistants: 0% (Wierd flex, but okay) Students hail from: 50 states and 47 countries (okay.....) Number of languages spoken on campus: More than 50 (Makes perfect sense)
this is dirty and angers me https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/188/cbc478a2-2453-4ec7-b683-1757bce4d823/Screen Shot 2019-02-03 at 11.43.50 AM.png
The students enrolled in the 'university' knowing that they wouldn't be taking classes or getting a degree, just going to school on paper so that they could claim a legitimate reason to stay in the US. They were referred to it by Americans who knew it was fake, but didn't know it was run by ICE. The students were paying those Americans to get enrolled. Nobody who was legitimately seeking higher education got duped by this, the articles make it sound like they pulled a gotcha on well-meaning foreign students but there's more to it.
On the reports I've seen of this it claims the student who enrolled knew it was illegal and just to validate a student visa but I see no evidence of that: as pointed out the site looks almost totally legit. Is there any dead giveaway on there it's a fake?
I think as a student you'll do your basic research before clicking enroll?
That makes a lot of sense, the people acting as recruiters, ICE probably managed to get their emails or whatever to use as proof.against them and the accused students, that would definitely be enough to prove that they knew what they were doing.
These types of people aren't new and there are a lot of them (proportionally) in my country as well. I wish it would get sorted faster. They also happen to be Indian.
Thank you. A thread was posted earlier this week about it. It was spun as ICE being pure evil and trying to get people whom are seeking an education. The article was about how they managed to arrest the people whom were running the ring. Seems like they got enough evidence to prove that some students knowingly are abusing the system. Anyone who is legit and using the process properly are going to be enrolled at legitimate schools which are well known. Yeah, ICE has been doing some pretty fucked up shit. But, this is exactly what they should be doing. This is the type of enforcement they should be doing.
